Can GS do this

You know how you always have the best game ideas when you are nowhere near your Mac where GS is installed?? Well I just had one of those moments. I was wondering if....

A portrait game scrolls from top to bottom of the screen. The bottom half of the screen is what looks like the controls for a vehicle (the one in the game). The control panel would be an unmovable image and would sit at the bottom of the screen the whole time. If that image was to have a hole cut in it, say in the middle, and it was saved as a PNG would the scrolling background be seen through the hole?

Obvously I could wait until I got home from work to check but when I get an idea in my head....and I wanted to start sketching out screens if it works.

Hi, that's perfectly possible. Maybe look at the Basic Shoot-em-Up template and change the scrolling background (parallax) and the baddie actors' x coordinates instead of the y.

You can see stuff through holes in PNG providing you save it "with transparency". Hope that helps. :-)

Another thing is possible. You could make a smaller playing field and put it either in between or above the controls.
