Max image size?

So the max image size is 1024x1024 right? but what if i'm using Resolution independence? does that mean if RI is on the largest actor I can have is 512x512?

    I guess the only way is to split the image into 4sets of 1024x1024 to have a full 1024 resolution on retina display.
