Hello,

I currently have an Iphone 4 and I would like to buy an Ipod touch only for testing my game performance on old devices.

Which one do you think I should I buy? Second or third generation?

Any advice would be really nice.

Thanks…

    third generation...

sorta look at it like if they don't have the funds to buy a used 3rd generation and they are serious gamers... they wont have the funds to buy your game...

and me, personally, if I had a 4phone, I would save up to buy a 5phone ... not something older... because with every new device release ... people look for things to buy for it...

can you borrow a iPod3? or ask someone in forum to test on one?

I tried a quick search to try to see if there were any numbers on active 2nd gen iPod Touches but couldn't find any quick info. I did see however that about 38% of iOS devices are iPod Touches (Sept 2010) and I guess a 3G iphone would be about the same performance wise. Perhaps a little more research could find a number and based on that you could make a choice.

We have two 2nd Gen ipod Touches in my family (both my kids). They spend allowance and often get itunes gift cards and buy games all the time so my personal belief is there is still a large audience even with those devices.

As MH said though you could look to the community for testing .. perhaps set up a testflight.com account?

I think I will get an Ipod second generation, to cover most of the devices....

Should be similar in performance to an Iphone 3G.
