so I see a lot of people have things like explosions in their games. how do you do this?

do you just draw an image frame by frame and have like 10-20 images then open your player actor and have "when player collides or overlaps coin" "play animation" (then drag all your image in)

or how do YOU do it?

yup that's how its done ... and there's even a great free tool to help with the images:

Edit: Also if you open Gamesalad creator and click the New+ then double click the Basic shoot them up template you will see it all in action and the images and code to create it

You can also add particle effects.

This works really well to add to collisions and explosions, also add sound, that helps a lot too
