Line Ar(X) submitted to Apple! Promo Video inside (Beefy_Clyro)

Hello all you lovely people :)

So after pretty much no sleep this weekend, i have finally submitted my new game to Apple. I've really enjoyed the game making process on this one and hopefully this is represented in the game. Sure i had moments where i felt like i wasnt getting anywhere, where i felt i wanted to smash my Mac but i dont know what it is, i just feel a little something else about this one! As i type, i think i just answered the question i had been asking myself .... Why did i feel that little extra special about completing this one? The whole premise of this game was one of my earlier ideas, from when i was a newbie, i really wanted to make it but didnt know where to start! I have now produced the game and im happy with it, i enjoy playing it and theres some pretty neat things going on in there! It means, i am improving as a game dev and that makes me happy :D

    Love it, beefy; simple but attractive graphics; really like the pseudo-3D, very effective; some sophisticated ruling going on there; looks challenging and most importantly looks to be addictive gameplay. It deserves to be successful, in my op.

    There's just one thing...........

    If that music is the actual music from the game and plays continuously like that, it'd drive me crazy. Ker....azy, I tell you! Seriously, it'd get on my nerves, big-time.

    ok, no offense, but the music SOOOO does not fit the video. You have this game that's visually retro, electro, cold, dark... but your music sounds like walking in the village in some NES rpg. And I just can't get over it.. I just can't...

    But i think it's got a good style and gameplay.

    edit: I may have some music to fit the mood if you're interested

    Yep, you can tell this is a game that was a labor of love. Usually I say something like: Looking forward to trying it, but this time I'm saying, I can't Wait to Play it!

    (ditto on the music, though) (but I usually turn game music off and play while listening to podcasts anyway).

    I really appreciate your feedback, thanks. Hmm music is going to be down to musical preference, i can see how it feels like it could drive you ker ..... azy. I found when i was flowing in the game it fits really well and you get a good rhythm with the music. However, when i couldnt do something and was getting frustrated the 1st thing i would take my anger out on is the music.

    Soo i see there are now a few comments on the music which doesnt bode well :( I felt it worked quite well with the in-game retro sound effects that are played. Both music volume and sound effects can be individually adjusted.

    Glad you liked the style and game play though. I would love to hear what music you have that you think could fit quite well, please drop me a line on - keith (at) kc8(dot)co(dot)uk

    Thanks Kasper, unfortunately, i dont think it will have a wide enough appeal without the 'cutesy' graphics to do well on the sales front ... Heres to hoping im proved wrong. Ha

    Unfortunately i've had to pull the game down from submission. There is a bug in the scoring which i need to fix. Im also now taking the chance to looking into the music as so many people seemed against it.

    For any of you lovely people out there that are interested in Line Ar(X), you'll be pleased to know that i have now changed the music. After receiving several comments on here about the music, i decided it was letting the game down so i have now had a custom 3 track soundtrack made up much in the mould of the dirty, dark, 'daft punk' tron style :) You can hear the majority of the theme song in this trailer;



    Watch in 480p for better quality.

    The game had a scoring bug in it which has now been ironed out, i've spent a couple of hours tonight stripping and squeezing out a couple of mb to get under the 20mb download on 3g limit, i just managed to get it to 19.9mb in iTunes! Phew! That means, this game should be submitted this weekend! Woo.

    Any comments are welcome.

    Excellent, glad to see the new music is going down well, i really feel its added a whole new level to the game.
