Mac Help!

Hello, I have been learning Objective C through various tutorials and books untill I stumbled upon GameSald. It has got me extremely interested and I wanted to start straght away. Now for this I need a Mac. However I am unsure what Mac I should get.
I do not have alot of money to spend, so I was going to buy a second hand one off Ebay. I have been searching through ones that have taken my fancy and they have all said MAC OS X 10.4 or 10.5. Now I notice that for GameSalad you need MAC OS X 10.6. Can you upgrade for free or do I need to purchase a mac that already has MAC OS x 10.6?

Just make sure the processor is Intel and not Motorola.
