Hello all!

Here's the first game we plan on rolling out. We're hoping to get this rolled out before Halloween, but we'll see how it all goes. We're not releasing the name or the gameplay yet, but we hope to have gameplay videos within a couple weeks. Lets just say badass girl kills lots of monsters game.

But for a tasty snapshot into the future. This is the first concept drawing for our heroine.

Thanks, we have found an amazing artist. This is just a conceptual drawing, and we imagine she will change as we progress towards final art. But we're going to upload the progressive states of the art, so you'll get a chance to comment (we always appreciate advice!). Once the characters are finalized, they'll be molded into their playable personas, and we'll get some gameplay video out!

Did we mention she wields swords?

Here's the second conceptual drawing. In this one, the character is becoming more defined. We already anticipate changes to the sword, shoes, and sleeves. But still, we're excited.

On the artist, its Basil Murad. I think he worked on QS's Air Supply.

He did indeed, and will be working on Air Supply SOS and Air Supply 2 - he's very talented, and a nice bloke to boot!

Also, three pints and he's anyones!

    Good luck with your game!

    concepts

We're trying out different looks for our heroine. Also, the first conceptual drawing of the monsterhat (which is carved from the decapitated head of a monster, of course). Any thoughts?

Basil's a ledge. 3 pints, wow QS, i found he certainly wasn't shy after a shandy and a packet of pork scratchings, he vowed not to drink to avoid another 'episode' like last time, unfortunately he said that was a story for another day ;)

Liking the images, i prefer the 3rd one the best

Oh yeah? The Vampira model? :P

We're loving Basil. I'm fairly certain the final result (which might be next) is going to have characteristics from all of them.

We're going to do some testing, but will have to work with the fact that our heroine will at her final size only by 64X64 (retina of course).

We've now decided on pants, and are closing in on the final in game character (which may still look very different, but many of the same characteristics). Also, we've given her a name.

    Seras.

Hah, the first image was from the artist to me, so he was detailing the areas that I had specified for the first draft. Not so much a "I'll forget its a hoodie if I don't write it down now". :P

    @QS

:) Its pronounced "I'm having a serasly good time making this game" :P Actually, that joke probably didn't help. SARE-US

So, most of the levels have brick platforms. Here are the pieces that will be tiled together. Stay tuned for INCREDIBLE gargoyle capstone tomorrow!

    Hello all!

We've got the title! The official name of this project is now MONSTROUS. If a Sous-chef could change my thread title to reflect this, I'd appreciate it.

On that note, we don't have final, fully animated characters to show you yet, but I can share the gaming environment! (Just a little, you can't see gameplay yet).

We implemented a background style called Multi Perspective Panarama. Originally patented by Disney, the perspective of the image changes based on where you view it.

Let us know what you think!

    Amazing! It's looking awesome.

One question: The Multi Perspective Panarama, patented by Disney, means you'll have to pay something to them? I didn't knew that could be patented as well.
If I want to do the same thing, will I have to pay a fee?
  • LiquidGameworksLiquidGameworks Anchorage, AKMember, Sous Chef Posts: 956
hm, actually, now that you mention that, I ought to look into whether or not the technique is actually patented. I think the first time Disney used (first time used in motion picture) it was for Pinochio (40s?), but they've managed to keep MM past standard copyright dates. They used a similar technique in Inception... so we're probably fine. You will see the full effect when the camera moves during gameplay.
  • davidsalomondavidsalomon Member Posts: 136
Actually I got confused on the effect I thought.
I thought of the typical effect that gives the game as if there were a landscape on the background. Like Yoshi's Island for example: http://www.thunderboltgames.com/s/reviews/snes/YoshisIslandSNES_1.jpg
  • LiquidGameworksLiquidGameworks Anchorage, AKMember, Sous Chef Posts: 956
ah no. The effect in this game is that depending on the angle of the camera, the building landscape will change. Its an extended panarama wrapped around a circular canvas. I'll be posting gameplay soon, so users can see the full extent of the effect.
  • davidsalomondavidsalomon Member Posts: 136
Nice, I like it even though I'm not much into that drawing style.
The effect is looking awesome, I have to say it again.
By the way I sent you a PM, please check it :)

A quick peak at the title splash (the menu title will be out soon, featuring a close up of Seras. Will be kickass).
