- free with no publishing - pro 1-3 games per year all platform - 99$ - pro 4-10 games per year all platform - 299$ - pro unlimited games per year all platform - 599$ - "pro +" unlimited games per year all platform + inapp api to add own xcode + online read/write api - 999$ - "pro indie art" same as "pro +" but only available for selected developers that publish extraordinary artful games or apps who can apply to GS for this - 99$
updates in all pro version are unlimited of course
ps.: "all platforms" means if you publish 1 game to 3 platforms that´s still only 1 published game
Lower the pro price to $399. It doesn't have enough features to cost what it does now. ________________________________________________________________________
When it comes to development, it's quite unprofessional to have a 'pro' & 'non-pro' accounts. Right there you know the company is not serious of development. Some of its users should not be called 'pro developers'? That's not how it should work.
With iOS/Android only pricing, Corona's pricing is only $200 for year! Both, $350.
PLUS. THEY HAVE F'N STUDENT DISCOUNTS!
They don't have 'pro' & 'non-pro' (even though it's not titled non pro we all know what I mean).
Learn. GameSalad is far limited, yet a great tool for those who don't want to code. I think a fair $99 to PURCHASE (NOT YEARLY) the GameSalad application is good. GarageGames does this, & their users are completely happy with their pricing. When GS hits a big update, maybe 2.0, they have to purchase the next main version of the program. They get free updates for version 1.0 to 1.9. When purchasing 2.0, they get updates through version 2.9 etc.
In fact, why can't GameSalad become an open source, & just allow the community to update the application?! GameSalad could work of donations, as the successful Cocos 2D framework.
It's time for change GameSalad. The Pro Membership I bough was a waist. Why? Well, I could learn some quick lua & get everything it has plus way more for a smaller fee.
Again, GameSalad is completely different from any other SDK such as Corona, but the outcome, published app is about the same. Learn from your competitors. Do it once, do it right.
beefy_clyro said: Pro is fine where it is, would be better with a few more features though. Key thing for me is get rid of the free model! $200 for free and $500 for pro
Why should there not be a free version. Where's the harm in that?
Everyone says gs should make the free account $99 so that people dont publish crappy games to the appstore and make gs look bad, but people already have to pay apple $99 a year for a developers account. Why does everyone want to give gs more money???

Cause its well worth it and 99 dollars for dev account and gs account is a minimal investment.

I agree with , but I think that has to be change somewhere
if u use download the software then it is way to easy to hack, any onr upload gamesalad and everyone can use it I think accounts are way better
I'm sick of these threads. This is the way it is, so lets just leave it at that! I'm happy with being a free user and plan to join the pro in the future. if it weren't for free, then I wouldn't have even considered GameSalad!
I don't think they should have free with no publishing, as free with publishing is the main thing that attracts users to game salad, i think pricing is fine, maybe e little lower for pro, But free with publishing is needed otherwise game salad will get less traffic and less money (after people get there feet in free they then tend to upgrade to pro) This is only my opinion but, when i was starting out developing and there was no free in game salad, i would have gone straight to corona, But now I'm a loyal gs user and member, and i thank free for that!!

No! like i said that defeats the purpose of attracting new members to game salad, if there was no free version with publishing when i joined i would have gone straight to corona, But I'm a loyal game salad user and will not change now!
No.... The point of gamesalad IS that they are bringing game creation to EVERYONE this includes people who don't want to pay 500$ or whatever price your talking about. and actually they'd loose a LOT of money and customers if they took away the free version. Though I do believe that their $500 version is way expensive and they should tone that down to maybe abut 400 or 300 or just 500 and bring apples famous api's like in-app purchase and push notifications to a 199 version.

Im pretty sure it isn't like that, yes the gamesalad team want to empower others to create great games but they like any business need to make money. Don't know how you calculate that taking away free would mean less money at all...people can still play with the software and test on their devices without paying anything. If they don't feel confident with paying that amount then most likely they are looking to make a cheap buck with crap apps which is why gamesalad has such a tainted reputation.
My idea:
My first suggestion would to make the basic publishing version $150 with an additional $100 charge per app submitted. (helps strongly against crap apps)
better publishing option: still basic features but with no extra charges so a flat $400.
Pro version: all features and no limits on uploads $700
HTML 5 pro version: all features plus the new money making ideas gamesalad plans to offer through HTML5 at $1000.
These I think would fit well once gamesalad reaches 1.0 as it will be able to distinguish the pro version which it has struggled with before.
I DONT KNOW IF YOU UNDERSTAND MARKETING PROPERLY but if the free version was 150 then most people would go to corona, the whole point of the free version is to attract people to become pro, or join game salad, THATS WHY EVERY SINGLE COMPANY OFFERS A FREE TRIAL OF THERE SERVICE THE WHOLE POINT OF GAMESALAD IS GAME CREATION FOR EVERYONE ITS ON THE HOME PAGE, it actually turns out that if they toned up the price of the free version to 150 then they would lose a lot of customers and then they would earn less money, Examples of free versions are all around us (free trials of software and that) BUT THE MAIN REASON AND THE REASON WHY I JOINED GAMESALAD IS THAT IT WAS FREE AND WELCOMING!, I STAND BY MY ARGUEMENT! AND IM SURE MOST PEOPLE AGREE WITH ME!! WOW THAT WAS A LONG POST (IM IN THE IRISH DEBATING LEAGUES) LOL

Yes I do understand marketing as I am currently studying business and economics (also english and maths but marketing ain't involved there) at a level and carrying on with one of the two for University. Really? Have you heard of a USP? As I said people still can access the creator and use it but just not publish, if they don't feel confident to spend $250 (cost plus 1 app published) then they probably wouldn't upgrade to pro anyway...
No the key reason GameSalad exists is to make money otherwise it would be a social enterprise and a open source project. Sure GameSalad want to help others make games without code but its not what runs the business. Your point suggests Coca Cola produce coke to make others happy and no other purpose.
How are you predicting that? Ever heard of a demand curve? Yes GameSalad would be providing a free version effectively by letting people use the creator just not be able to publish just like the photoshop demo doesn't let you save etc.
You can still join GS just not publish. I am also part of a debating club, you seem to lack some manners which is essential to debating without it just turning into an argument.
sorry i have a problem with my caps lock KEy, If were discussing qualifications here; I have a doctorate in business so i would encourage you to continue doing business as it is a great subject, But you don't seem to understand that swell as figures you need to lure people in and attract them to the product, hence being able to publish, OTHERWISE EVERYONE who doesn't want to pay 250 will just end up going to corona sdk instead ( which is called overpricing your products AND DIVERTING costumers to someone else's product/service, have you ever heard of that??) I personally think game salad is fINE THE WAY IT IS! Im sorry if my wording seemed to lack manners, i did not mean iT TO BE in any way offensive sorry about the caps lock, ( my key has gone all sticky, ill switch to my mac pro)
Oh far enough wondering why you seemed to be shouting round the whole forum! Impress, I was leaning towards business instead of economics as the business side seems to be more interesting.
I think the USP of drag and drop is what will really attract customers and a starting price would still be more competitive than Corona (corona is $350 to publish) while my option would be cheaper and even the $400 is more than competitive. Yes I have heard of overpricing....lol Yes because as a consumer it offers by far the best and cheapest option and others will agree with you on that merit. This is not going to make GameSalad enough money. Even with my proprosed changes I still think it would be still the most interesting option for consumers with no advantages for corona after the next two updates or so.
Its alright I didn't take offence but on the internet it is quite easy to inadvertently insult someone.
Yes it is! ;D, I THINK that BOTH our ideas ARE LEGITIMATE and good, and it depends more on stats than opinion, so I'm just gonna stay wHERE I STAND AND stick with my arGUement but become neutraL on MATTer of opinion --------------------------------------- CHears
it is really funny to see all these "DEVELOPERS" crying to be charged more by GameSalad! "please we need higher fees!" "The more we pay, the better we feel about being a developer".LOL
How about Android Publishing options. I mean really. I love Apple just as much as the next groupie, but we are COMPLETELY dependent on that market.
100% GameSalad is amazing, no need argue the facts, but for people planing on making application development a career, you better wake up. Never put all your eggs in one basket.
In app purchase has become a professional standard; after all, what other method can counter pirating applications better... create only free apps, and allow the user to UNLOCK the full version via in app purchase.
everyone knows how to get free apps now days, but know one can counter the in app servers. all I'm trying to say is, before we ask a company to charge us more money, maybe we can ask them for a little help making money first.
One thing to keep in mind is, those companies and individuals making over 100 thousand dollars off apps a year are not posting comments on their software developers site screaming charge me more money!
But rather, they are expanding into all markets, to generate more.
free is free to create but cant publish. if you want to publish you should pay. simple.
if you want to do any job and make money you have to buy tools. forking out money for tools makes you appreciate them more and work harder to get the best value for your money out of them.
it happened with the music industry - its a 2fold thing but when people had to save up 6 months wages for synths and a drum machine they bloody didnt press play record it and expect to get signed.
its why the store is flooded with !@#$% games and template ripoffs - dont always blame the template sellers - if those thieves HAD to pay even $99 to publish a game plus the $99 apple fee then most would think twice i guarantee it.

If u use free, there will be two option
1. You get all the pro features but Gamesalad takes 50 percent of what u made(after apple 30 percent)
2. Less features but GS taks nothing
