> The guy who never seems to finish anything: plan of action
Hi, some of you know that I've been around the forums for a couple of years now and haven't finished a single game/app.
Some of you also might know that the reason is – like some other people, I'm sure – I have other creative projects on the go all the time (creative writing and electronic music composing, in my case) and I've been trying to "clear the decks" for quite a while now. This will enable me to devote my energies to those things but also GS projects in a more organised and productive way.
So at the risk of boring you ;-) I'll mention that I've finally got my 138 music tracks off to a music library company (at long last); my first album This Solid Land will be back on iTunes again shortly; and I've finished for ever editing my first two novels and have sent quite a few submissions to publishers and agents recently.
Starting next week, my working day will be split into 2 sections, sometimes 3: primarily writing and my GS projects. Bit of self-discipline, now that I've cleared the air a bit.
I've made myself a timetable concerning GS projects, and I'm putting it here in this post not only for anyone who might be interested, but now it's public, it'll give me added incentive to stick to it!
(This first app I wanted finished, well, now, really, so this new timeplan I'll stick to otherwise i'll kick myself):
Logic Puzzler 1 - logic grid puzzles - iPad - finished mid-December at latest
"Secret name" - a surreal interactive multimedia journey app - iPad - finished end of March/beginning of April 2012
Ancient Ones: Discovery - part 1 of adventure game - iPad - Oct/Nov 2012
Ancient Ones: Factory - part 2 of adventure game - iPad - April 2013
Boto and the Isms - top-down shooter - iPad - August 2013 (optimistically)
OK, thanks for your patience if you've read this far! Full steam ahead back into Logic Puzzler 1 starting Monday.
Anyone else have a few or more projects all bubbling away but none finished yet? (I won't feel so lonely if I'm not the only one! ;-) Or anyone else "getting their act together", GS-wise, where they hadn't before?
:-)

"So yeah, I'm the guy that never..."
And just left it at that!
I'm looking forward to what you make! A lot of ideas are worthless I find unless they're actually *made* into something. So get a move on!
I've got a few projects lined up for next year, including, in no particular order:
Air Supply: SOS
Air Supply 2
Project CAP
A Retro shooter
A Modern Shooter (there IS a difference!)
An Adventure game of some sort
A personal game
A weird time travel game
They're all a bit crazy, and I'll probably only get two or three done. And I'll probably add more to the list...
A man's work is never done it seems!
QS
keweworkshop: sounds as if you're in the same boat! Glad for you that your first app's almost finished; maybe then your other projects might get an airing. Best of luck getting stuff together; as much as I've tried over the years, time can't be stretched! Only so much time for each creative enterprise and inevitably something has to take the back seat. You'll get there, I'm certain (and so will I, and all others, hopefully!) You're right, QS, it might of attracted more curiosity! Thanks; I'm moving, I'm moving!! For certain words alone are useless without action; I'm looking forward to getting stuck in again to my GS projects... one at a time...
I think I've given myself an advantage in as much as all the apps in the timetable I mentioned have all been started, some the major hard work done. Time will tell if I stick to my guns or not. That's a lot of work, QS. It's good that you've a wide range of stuff to choose from, to finish and add to your existing apps. For interest, can you list your apps already in the iTunes store?
svn: good thinking, really. I don't think it matters either how many half/quarter finished demos you have as it all experience! Here's hoping you'll find one of your projects that you can't leave alone and can get absorbed in... and finished! You'll get there too, I'm certain. :-)
Attack of the Kraken: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/attack-of-the-kraken/id335511023?mt=8
Gravitrixx: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gravitrixx/id404543866?mt=8
Air Supply - 1bit Run: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/air-supply-1bit-run/id423073029?mt=8
.Matrixx for iPad: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/.matrixx/id444075449?mt=8
Gravitrixx for iPad (though that's just a port really)
There's also Unbearably Wonderful - which isn't a game at all. In fact, I don't know what it is, really, other than the ramblings of a drunk (yes, I was drunk when I made it, but I leave it up there as people seem to enjoy it!).
There were three other games up there, but they just weren't up to par, so I removed them
I also removed 'A Merry Gravitrixmas' - but that might go up again in the run up to Xmas!
I think having a lot of demos will help to be honest. The idea though is to actually *finish* a game.
I'm on the cusp of that now with 'Sunshine', and it's a stressful but hugely rewarding feeling! I recommend it
Cheers,
QS
In the same way as you I'll list what I've got on and then how I hope to tackle it...
Projects Started:
• www.stormystudio.co.uk website...Still need to finish it as much as I'd originally planned. And add some recent animated idents I've created for game developers.
• Sister in-laws website (she's an interior designer for British TV shows ..and I owe her for babysitting... check out the progress at www.hannahcorkinteriordesign.co.uk
• Animated Short , Its been fully written and storyboarded for years... one day I'll make it and use it as a stepping stone to becoming Tim Burton :-)
• Dark Asylum - Point and Click Adventure...I remade the main game mechanic recently to improve load times by 10x once its perfect I'll hopefully storm through the game production...here's hoping anyway.
• Stupid Pixels - A template I sell on my site, I'd like to make a quick game from it myself
• Make some more baby help based apps To build up the few I currently have for sale.
• A Special Invaders game - I've started it and its my current project I work on for around 40 minutes a day on my commute on the train. It's not gonna rock the world but its fun and unique.
• Get all my templates up on the proper marketplace - if I get approved I want to put the time in to get my better templates up for sale.
• A new 3d room template idea Hopefully make this soon.
Oh and start another Think outside the box contest once I'm in the right mood.
Anyway thats me...
I find that I'll have a really good run of a week or a month of solid work late into the night on a project, then I'll go off somewhere, a holiday, long weekend get back, get distracted and never quite make it back on to a project...I wish I'd got into this about 4 years ago...I'm sure I had more free time.
Good luck Gyro...your adventure game always looked very exciting...
- Project Fuel: Something with racing cars but then different.
- Project Dragon: Might be another creature like a robot or something, I made a proto the day I got GS. A big project.
- Project K: A sequel to Kung Fu Finger 2, same theme, different game
- Project Neighbors: Not sure if I'll do this. Prototype is nice though.
In between I want to post more demo's. I have some almost ready. The first will be a lightning generator (I used this in Evil Eyes and Kung Fu Funger 2), the second a Sin/Cos motion movement example.
I wish a day had 48 hrs
Good luck Gyro, while I finish some stuff, you are not alone in planning stuff.
Cheers,
Ludwig
I'm currently working an average 50-60 hrs a week in the day job which leaves me with no time or energy to see my current game through. Man I wish i was unemployed! hehe
Its kinda good to hear others struggle to get their games done though. We're in it together!
I have 3 or4 project going on, but don't know when will I have time to even touch them
Calvin
Edit: I never remember how to spell that word.....
EDIT:
You beat me to it Digi!

I'm another example of a person who is pushing forward on too many projects.
Aside from the 4 videos which I've shot but am still in postproduction on... and the various old videos I'm trying to clean up for internet release...
I have a couple of Flash panorama projects... both involve interconnected sets of high-res panoramas, but the art styles vary. One is constructed out of panoramic paintings, the other from panoramas captured inside a set of 1/24th scale miniature worlds.
I have a set of Mac/PC realtime 3d levels in Torque 3d, which I'm way behind on.
I have a platformer in Corona I'm doing the graphics on.
I'm developing two point-and-click adventure games, one in Gamesalad, one in Adventure Maker... but have pretty much put the Adventure Maker title on hold.
I've also got my ongoing Gamesalad miniature golf game, which is now starting to take shape.
Aside from all of that, I have been selling a lot of custom-made stock video and stock texture collections with moderate success.
I also have a line of rapid-prototyped model railroading products in T, Z & N scale.
Some of the things I'm doing are 'backburner' projects, others are higher priority. At present time, I have a system for allocating time in percentages... so certain key projects move forward faster than others. I do have a strategy for how to organize this but there are a lot of obstacles popping up lately making it difficult to move forward as fast as I'd like.
Here's the thread I just created to at least show something prior to Halloween
http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=34024
I'm hopeful to get this one done in the next 2-3 weeks but as we all know a lot can happen (e.g. new idea -holiday season game, bad GS version release, my wife and kids won't let me touch my mac, etc...).
I do have 3 games that has been started and would like to have available before the end of the year.
1. Boo Blasters - Halloween game
2. Kid Ninja Slice - A Fruit Ninja style game
3. Kid Ninja (Part 2) Training - Sequel (yes! I already have a sequel) to Kid Ninja
My problem is probably the same as everyone else with the shift of priorities because there is always the better idea that comes to mind. However, I'm hoping that it works for my advantage because I will have multiple games that will be out pretty much close to each release instead of having to release 1 game every 4-5 months. I also need to switch attention to do different things, otherwise I will get bored of what I'm doing
I really like this thread because it doesn't make me feel alone
Plough on, we all must! :-)
Anyone else still with their first app unfinished? And anyone else is welcome to post a list of their finished apps here as well.
