Animation with Thumb stick

I am using the thumb stick template to make a 2d top down zombie shooter. I have already made the animation for the main player walking. How do I get it to play when the user touches the left thumb stick? I tried creating a rule but that didn't work.

    i tried that. didn't work. If i check the attribute, it just animates and doesn't stop
