    Deep Blue made a great Zelda template for people to learn from, it's called Zanda. And some D-bag uploaded it as is to the App Store, and got crucified. Judging from the comments, people are starving for a Zelda type RPG, but no one has really created one yet. That template is a great place to start from. Key word being "start" Here's a link to the template if you think you want to give it a shot.

    i definetly agree with the time and effort it takes ALOT but at the same time you dont have to make it crazy long like final fantasy, a short interesting storyline with good key elements to the game is definetly do able in a much shorter period. i think it just comes down to having thoughs key ellements that make the game interesting and which would determine if the game does well not having a really long storyline

    you gotta remember that if you make a rpg it will be compared to everyother rpg. So although i get what your trying to say i dont agree when it comes to a rpg. if a rpg that your trying to sell has a short storyline youll get a ton of bad reviews just for that.

    i get what your saying i still think its worth a shot obviously not to do something really short as you do want the game to last but there is an inbetween of long and short

    As a tip, write out your RPG story first. Once you have this, you'll have a good idea of how big the "world" has to be. There are so many elements to an RPG, and you have to constantly fight the tendency for it to become a never ending project.

    I'm hoping to announce an RPG in early January (at least the development thread). It'll be fairly comparable to Dragon Warrior (NES), as kind of a pet project. I've already developed map zones which spawn specific random creatures appropriate for zone (slimes vs wyverns, as example) (only when walking, % chance encounter changes based on zone and terrain), a fully working battle scene which calculates hits/excellent hits/dodges/runaways based off an equation which takes into account hero strength/defense, monster strength/defense, and level (which is actually VERY lean, quite proud actually). The only thing really holding me back at this point is the lack of lockable backgrounds (so no accidental nudging) or snap to grid. I imagine that by the time I'm ready to incorporate it, IAP and Kiip should be functioning, and it'll be a free to play RPG. I have an artist, so luckily I'm not going to have to worry about art (in terms of creation).

    I already have a prototype built, but I'll introduce the game when I find out whether GS can handle the world map I intend to build. WIth small, tiled nonmovable pieces, I'm hoping so!

    I'm doing this because I want to recreate my childhood, so I fully expect it to take some effort and time. :)

    great to hear that your giving it a shot and yours sounds awesome

    i wasnt aiming that high i was just going for a ingame battle system with basic health magic and exp probly just having random spawning monsters in certain ereas which will give off exp orbs just basic stuff.

    i am working on the story that is the hardest part for me but at the moment i am just getting everything functional so that i can just make the maps without having to keep adding new things as i build.

    as for art i am going to try do most of it myself but i will most likly get some help here and there

    @deej
    I'm currently making an RPG game , as you can see in my thread here:
    http://forums.gamesalad.com/discussion/34137/p-o-ms-new-project-code-name-tlw-sneak-peaks-d#Item_15
    And I'm telling you it's not an easy task ! Ive made a lot of games already and this project is by far the hardest I ever had , but I love it ;)
    In my opinion a "small" RPG won't work, by small I mean 30 min to finish the story.. But I might be mistaken , I don't know..
    Only start if you willing to dedicate 6-8 months working daily on your project , otherwise , don't waste your time .
    @LiquidGameworks
    Did you start a thread? Can you post a link, I would love to follow your progress !

    @P-O-M that's for the tip yours look great looks like its coming along really well I totally agree with not making a game only 30 mins to finish. And I am starting to see it is gonna take alot to get it going but I think it's worth it and I will stick to it I think alot of people give up on it cause it's so hard and so much time involved how long have you been working on yours so far and how far in are you?
