Did lack of custom fonts stop me beating Angry Birds ???

A little over a year ago I created the first Keep Calm and Carry On app ( http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/keep-calm.../id393497171?mt=8 ) using GameSalad. During that year and a half other developers have created their versions of "Keep Calm's", some allowing you to type in your own text. Okay I thought I'll wait for keyboard entry and custom fonts. We got keyboard entry which was cool but I needed custom fonts. GS never promised custom fonts in their road map but I thought I'd wait a bit more and see what happens as we did get some more fonts about six months ago. I also try developing my own custom font entry system which worked but got bogged down with performance, spacing, sizing, etc.

Well after a year and a half of okay'ish sales the sales picked up recently so I had a look at how the competitors where doing and well guess what, yep one of them is now top "Paid App" in the UK beating Angry Birds.

This is so frustrating but I'll get over it and move on, although I'm am now questioning my developing path over the next year or so. For now I'm going to step away from the computer for a while and bang my head against a wall to see if that resolves any outstanding issues =/

Put a double cushion on the wall first... seriously, that's rotten of the other developers pinching your idea; I guess there's always people ready to jump on a bandwagon.

Perhaps wait until custom fonts in GS then call their bluff somehow... (add a few another aspects that their apps haven't got....)

I'm sure it's healthy to question your app development path but hope you don't give up GS altogether; that'd be a shame.

I had someone steal my idea once.
They had a Facebook page that was a hobby to do with my App idea, I asked them to help me advertise if I paid them, they asked me loads of questions about my app and how it works and never got back to me then months later published their own.

Only thing I think i'm above average at, is coming up with ideas.

What's getting doubly annoying is that I'm now receiving 1 and 2 star reviews criticising the fact that you can't use custom text even though I make no mention of it in my description and none of the screenshot would lead you to believe that my version could do that.
