Proximity Sound

Hi all,

I was wondering if it is possible to adjust the volume of a playing sound according to the actors proximity to it. I don't want to adjust the volume of all the sounds. Just a particular one.

Any ideas or help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Yup on the play sound actor is a tick box for directional volume, the closer the actor is the louder it will be. Give that a go and see if that suits what you are looking for.

All I can see is "Positional Sound" and "Velocity Shift". I have tried them and they didn't really give the results I wanted. It seems positional shift moves the sound to the appropriate speakers (L,R) depending upon your position and velocity shift affects the pitch of the sound, not the volume.

If you can get the in built system to work for you then beefy's method is the best as it will be lightest on resources - I have done a demo using magnitude which is just a very quick example of another route you could use. - hold on a sec ):

Is it the "positional sound" I should be using? When I am right on top of the actor playing the sound it still isn't as loud as when I have Positional Sound unchecked.

    Cheers for the help guys

Yeh positional sound sorry, its the lightest and easiest method. My other idea would of been using magnitude but is going to require more resource, it all depends on your type of game and what else you have going on. If the method i suggested works ok but is just to quiet, why not open the sound file with something like 'audacity' (free download), duplicate the track and export/import that into GameSalad? The sound file will now be much louder and then should be loud enough when in use.

Cheers Beefy. Yeah, I have audacity and I'm just having a play with it now. I have quite a bit of other stuff going on so I may try to get positional sound to work.

    Thanks again
