Need Opinions on UI!

Hi everyone,

Recently I had released a game called Wurble (http://phizie.com/wurble) - get it while it is still free ;). Anyways, after receiving a lot of input, I have a major update I am working on, to fix a lot. I will be fixing the speed, so it starts slow, and slowly progresses. I will add a backspace sort of feature, to delete the last letter you had tapped, and I will be removing the inventory, turning it into a $0.99 app.

Since I am doing this, I feel as if the bottom UI is just.. far too cluttered. I was looking for some feedback on what I could do to improve it, maybe even some mock-ups of your ideas.

It must include..
basic 5 tiles (or place for the current word you are creating)
a way to check the current word
a way to delete the current word
a pause button
your score
a backspace sort of feature

Does it look bad right now? Do I need different colors? Do I need different images to represent controls? Let me know your honest opinion, it means a lot!

Thanks everyone,
Matt

EDIT: The star will not be there anymore, it is NOT needed.

Can the score be top-right? Put the back button bottom-left. Check button bottom-right. Delete button could be the duck (Quack as it deletes). Pause button next to score at the top.

how do you manage to make the score look like that? i mean do you use an image for each number right?
i would just move the score to the top right

I think that a score in top is good because it's always in view and not lost behind your fingers. Also regarding the buttons I think having the check and delete buttons apart from each other will eliminate pressing the wrong button. And the pause button would probably be the least used button (if at all) so put it up out of the way.

BTW, your game looks real nice. Real nice art. And neat colours.

The score is usually on the top, users are used to look on the top to see the score, thats why i would pput it there, apart from what doguz said

I don't agree on the score location, it depends on the importance of the score during game play or not. In your case the score is secondary to the word, and you should be able to get both on the same view. Since the user will always keep an eye down to check out the word that he is constructing, there is no sense in putting the score on an opposite location to that. Keep the score where it is.

@Doguz - Do you think that having in the top right will bother people? Funny idea about the duck, haha, I like it!

@tutyses - Yes, they are custom font images. Do you think having it at the top right will bother people?

i think it looked great in your first screenshot ..you just need to move the pause button to the top right so it docent interfere..

And maybe instead of having a check mark make the user touch the completed word to submit it then you could resize the X and put it where the check used to be ..should get rid of any clutter
