How do I get a 30 second or less sound file to insert as a sound effect—NOT a music file?

Hello Everybody,

I have taken some simple effects from GarageBand, and have exported them to iTunes, and then put them on my desktop. They are all less than 30 sec. each.

The problem is that when I drag them into GameSalad (the sound section), it registers them as music, not a sound effect. The reason I need them to be a sound effect is so that I can continue to have background music playing throughout all of the effects.

Is my problem the way I exported them from GarageBand? Is there an option that GameSalad will ask which one you want?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Jack McGraw

You need to either get an audio converter program, and convert your sound effects to .ogg which is the native GameSalad format for sound effects, or change the export settings in GarageBand to .mp3, and then when importing, GameSalad will ask you if you want to import it as a music file, or a sound file, and then you would choose sound for sound effects.

GameSalad uses .m4a as the default music format, and that is what you are more than likely exporting out of GarageBand with. When you do that, GameSalad wont ask you if you want to import as sound or music, it will automatically see that as a music file since that is the default music format for GameSalad.

You can download pretty easily from the web, or make them using GarageBand for free

@jckmcgraw - Oh no, there was a post about some Diablo 3 stuff, or gold farming for Diablo 3 or something to that effect, with absolutely horrid grammar, and I was responding to that post, but it has been removed. :)
