Tapping the actor below an actor

I have a pop up messaging overlay, that when appears means the actors behind it are not active, as soon as the pop-up disappears the actors behind become active. However when i tap the close button on this overlay as soon as the overlay closes the tap registers on the actor below - basically tapping it by accident. Any ways to avoid this?

Apologise is this is a very basic question, but i couldn't mange to find the solution on the forum.
