Question: pressing a key once to start an action...

I have been having trouble getting text to appear with the push of a key, then after that key is pushed, a press of the same key will trigger old text deleted and new text created. Also with action. A key to be pressed and an action triggered (not holding it down but pressed once), then the same key pressed and a new action to override the current. Hopefully that made sense, I can try rewording it if asked. Please help and thank you!

It didn't work, I'm talking about keys as in space, enter, shift... in case that wasn't clear. Thank you for answering, any other ideas?
