Yup, you guessed... ;-)

I suppose I'm not the only GSC user in the same boat, where other "creative pursuits" take focus over GS, or always starting new stuff but never following through to the end... although personally I'm pleased I managed to finish one complete app (End of the Earth) at least.

That's what I've been doing for more than a year and a half now - starting projects and only getting so far, before another idea takes hold, or something other than GS becomes more dominant...

I do try to plan the game/app before I start including notes, GSC test files, etc, and so that way, after being put aside as a slow-burner, I'm able to pick up from where I left off the last time.

As I say, I'm certain I'm not the only one to do this!

I started a similar thread to this, probably about 8 or 9 months ago now, outlining my "plans of action" when it came to GSC; gave info regarding order of getting my stuff produced. (And not sticking to it... ;-) )

To cut a long story short, I've revised my plan of action regarding the order of stuff I'm going to finish... yet again... because I had yet another idea the other day that I think I can see through to the end. So this one's going to jump the queue and I've made a small start.

So when I've registered the name on Apple Connect later today, I'll video the start of it, and start a fresh thread as a progress thread.

2 reasons: I'm hoping some of you will be interested in seeing the progress of it (and hopefully might encourage some or help your enthusiasm - even interest - maybe); and the psychological factor: because it's posted as a progress thread, I really can't back down and not work on it.... (it seemed to work with the End of the Earth progress thread; I was encouraged and motivated to stick with it...)

So please check out the start of my latest project -codename GGG (I'll be giving the proper name later, as I say) that I'll be posting about later tonight, hopefully, in a fresh thread.

See; I'm getting my act together again.....

Thanks for reading; if you got this far! :-)

I feel the same way. Planned out an entire game, filled up 50 pages of notes, every possible thing that I might include. I put that notebook down, came back to it, and decided- "I don't like this idea... Wait this could work!" I stop, and work another project. That is just me :D

I know exactly what you talking about mate , and you definitely not the only GSC user in the same boat! most of us are sailing with you my friend !
On a positive note, i can say from experience that making a development thread is encouraging and motivating , providing info and sneak peeks from the game and get feedbacks keeps your interest on the project , believe me i know , iv'e been doing this with my RPG Game in the past year , (has it really been that long?! wow!!)
Good luck with your project and i look forward to read all about it man !

Ill defiantly pop in every now and then, David! Sounds like a great idea, everyone needs encouragement at one time or another.

Yep me too, we lost count of how many projects we have started and not finished but I guess we have an outlet with DBA and can at least put them on the market as templates.

It's hard to stay focused on one game from start to finish and I read somewhere less than 10% (might even be 5 can't remember) ever get finished....I'm starting to believe that figure is closer to 1% lol.

@NovicaStudios Great stuff, 50 pages of notes! That's gotta be worth getting into; as you implied, there's gotta be the right time... (and time found...) :-)

@P-O-M Thanks for the luck, Roy; + ditto to you with your projects; just seen your adventure-type quest game dev. thread; looking the business. :-) And I know what you mean about how fast time flies... frightening... Yes, I think development threads can be encouraging, agreed! Definitely helps you to focus on the task in hand too...

@Braydon_SFX Excellent stuff, thanks Bray. :-) I'll try to kept the thread updated fairly regularly, and make it interesting, hopefully...

@UtopianGames So right, Darren; keeping focused on just one project at a time is hard, definitely, if not impossible sometimes... as you say, it's good you've your excellent DBA as an outlet for templates, at least... 10% or even less ever get finished? Wow, but I can believe it...

    ------------------------------

Talking about the crazy way time moves nowadays (it used to snail along in my teens... ;-) ) it's already gone half ten in the evening here in Gyro Towers; more than likely the start of the development thread for GGG (temp.codename) won't be until sometime tomorrow now... sorry about that....

Yup, this has happend to me as well. I had to delay my game by almost a year because "other stuff" came up. Back to it now so that feels pretty good :)

I call it the "inertia theory" everything in the universe has inertia. If you lay something to rest it tends to stay at rest, if you keep at it, it keeps going and gains its own momentum. Eventually it becomes hard to stop (obsession).

That's just me though, I tend to be odd sometimes :P

    I feel your pain.

To avoid the loss of interest in a project I usually take a pause from it and take a paid dev job to spend the time (and earn some money). That way I am forced to be productive to respect deadlines (like now for example, of the last 72 hours I passed 60 of them coding @-) ).

Then when I go back to my project I feel more motivated, also by then learned something new that could help my project. :)

This happened to me last year when I was on the forums a lot but recently, like for the past 6 months I have been working only on one game that is almost complete, just polishing it and grabbing music at this point. For me less forum time = more work time.

Hey, @ORBZ , nothing odd about your inertia theory; sounding reasonable enough to me! :-)

There's also the aspect, I suppose, that despite leaving a job to "simmer" (rather than "fester"); you can always tell yourself you're "recharging your creative batteries"; it amazes me how sometimes our sub/unconscious mind still works on the game problems, with answers popping into your head when you get the momentum back again.

@MarkOnTheIron Agreed there, Mark, sometimes all it needs is a step back for a while, maybe for the creative battery-charging previously mentioned... ;-)

    Hi @Happiapps
This happened to me last year when I was on the forums a lot but recently, like for the past 6 months I have been working only on one game that is almost complete, just polishing it and grabbing music at this point. For me less forum time = more work time.
Then why are you here, posting on the Forums? Get back to work!! :-)) Only jesting! The Forum sure can "steal time", you're right; a happy balance I guess, is wanted... :-)

Nice one, @Hapiapps , glad it's all pulling together for you. What sort of game are you working on, for interest?

    ----------

I've started the progress thread of codename GGG now, if you'd like to check it out. The game's name is "Apple Connect-protected" so I've said the actual name now! First progress vid up already:

A physics puzzler like the rest of us. Seems like the most common thing made in GS

    @Hapiapps

Best of luck with it. Physics puzzlers may be the most common thing made in GSC but hopefully you're making yours uncommon to stick out from the crowd, fingers crossed for ya... :-)
