Yeah... It seems like they have run out of the Wow factor now that Steve Jobs is gone... Kinda sucks. I mean I will still get one I have an iPhone 4 now... so the upgrade will be nice..
@robertkdale Yeah I was wondering the same thing.... Now we will have to worry about 2 types of screens to develop for.... Seems like the best way will be to just keep designing for iphone 4 screen size... and then just move controls and widen the camera to adapt to the iPhone 5.
But... then It also makes me wonder... lol so are we now going to have to publish 2 iphone games... one regular and one widescreen version.. ugh... kinda dumb.
I can't imagine GS will have a solution fo the new iPhone 5 resolution soon.. I'm still getting black bars on the sides of my kindle Fire and Nook builds.
Yeah. In fact that is what I am about to do right now. I hope that GameSalad changes the default aspect ratio 4:3 to the new iPhone standard. I have also leaned that Apple is discontinuing the iPhone 3Gs.
yeah I was always big on Apple because all the apps work on all the phones (mostly). But now in just one generation the new iphone 5 apps will not work the same way they do in a 4s if at all..
I worked last week to make an "iPhone Universal" game - this is very easy - you just have to make few rules to auto change your game to iPhone 5, or older (live, on the device) - so your game works full screen for both devices. But not sure how it will work after publishing the game with GS.
yeah I would be curious also.. It seems like it might be harder though for the iPhone 5 because the screen is longer... so you would have to move the controls and everything..

In my way, you should put this rule into each actor.
well i hope apple isnt going to not feature games that dont adhere to the new resolution because im basically at the end of the road for my game after a year and that would somewhat suck if that was the case. i wouldnt even know what to do with the extra pixels at both ends. kinda changes the dynamic of the game
@TheMoonwalls Your is a nice idea, however I don't think it will work because what matters is the screen resolution at which you set your app. So if you set your app at the old iPhone res it will always have the black bars on the sides.
As jon said in another thread we need to go universal.
@MarkOnTheIron, what I'm wondering the most, is if we need graphics in both iPhone 5, and iPhone 4 resolutions, or if we can use just graphics for iPhone 5, and they will have cut sides for older devices - this would be better for big games, with a lot of graphics.
i think depending on the game that you make the aspect ratio issue may just as well be cropping factor. Just as movie industry has always done, capture in the the widest/tallest format and crop to each aspect ratio, and they just make sure the important elements are not anywhere near the crop. (and of course the black bars) but I think for the most part. if GS gives a window that shows iphone 5 dimentions with crop lines for iphone4, we can design a scene to include extra "visual" for the extra space and with the combination of model detecting attribute (like tshirt said devide=iphone5/4/ipad/ipad mini/kindle/nook etc) we can easily manage how things will move around instead of building one file for each platform/resolution. Also it would be nice if they build in a button that allows rotation to occur, in the scene. so we don't have to tilt our head when making horizontal/verticle versions.
In begin we now know that the new 16:9 aspect ratio of the iPhone means a resolution of 1136x640. In light of this I would like to ask that if I were to build a game now with a screen size of 1136x640 would it publish correctly with GameSalad?
In truth I only asks this because I am currently in the process of formatting my game in order to match the screen size of the new iPhone. Also I sent a message to GameSalad and below is their response.
Hello,
Thanks again for contacting GameSalad Customer Support!
Our production and engineering teams are currently looking into options regarding the latest iPhone's larger resolution. At this time I don't have a specific answer to address your inquiry, but I can say that we'll be sure to make an announcement on our forums with additional details at some point in the near future.
My current understanding is that Apple plans on simply adding a black bar-like space for previously published App Store applications, but as I'm sure you can understand, I have not been able to confirm this independently. I recommend checking out Apple's official webpage to see if they've covered this topic there, as well.

be on the side of apps not design for the new 16:9 aspect ratio.
So now I must adjust my scene size to 1136 X640?
