You can't publish the game to the App Store directly with GameSalad. You need to publish, and save the file to your computer, and then use Apple publishing guide (available in your iOS Dev account) to learn how to send the game to the App Store.
@cousinjoshy i feel your pain! I recently submitted my first app yesterday. Who knows if i did it right. But i essentially grabbed it from a few different sources, one of which was the gamesalad cookbook. A google search on "publish app to apple gamesalad" helped me out. Again i can't promise i did it right but heres the basic gist (at least if you're on the mac end) 1- finish your app. Make your icon (1024x1024) Make screenshots for your game. (Check itunes connect for image size reference) 2- Ensure that you have a DISTRIBUTION provisional file created for the game and that APP STORE is checked- not ad hoc. 3- once done drag that provisional profile into latest version of xcode (drag it onto icon of xcode) 4- Go to itunes connect and log in. Setup a new game and create a sku number etc. Fill in all of the game details and pricing tier. That search i mentioned earlier should point you to a great video tutorial from tshirtbooth on this. Itunes connect is where you'll put your screenshots, icon, etc. 5- publish your game via gamesalad. Just hit the publish button. That will step you through making the app. When the app is ready it will ask you to attach a provisional profile. Select the one you made for this game in my earlier step. Save the app somewhere you'll remember on your computer. Now ZIP file your app file! Thats important! 6- go back to itunes connect and check that all of your info is good. When you're ready hit the SEND BINARY button at the top. 7- this will then start the process for you. Eventually it will ask you to launch APPLICATION LOADER. Launch that. If you can't find it just do a computer search for it on your system. Once up click the create app button or something like that (i'm not in front of it). It will ask you where the app zip file is. Point to it. Done.
Now i know that may seem like a lot. Hell, i'm not even sure if i did it right but it seemed to work. My app is currently in review. Even if you get a little lost with my directions at the very least it can act as a kind of checklist for you to google search. So if you don't know what a provisional profile is, then google that and usually add the word "gamesalad" at the end of it. Thats what i did. You'll find instructions and videos to help you along the way.
I hope this helps you out and good luck on your game!
Read the iTunes connect developer guide. It explains everything. Find it by goggle or in the iTunes connect portal. Publishing to apple is an apple thing not a gamesalad thing. Why people look to GS when they can go to the source Apple. When I was publishing my first app I read the iTunes connect developer guide and learned all I need on how to use the portal and what Apple's requirements were. It's not hard.
@fryingbaconstudios yes you're correct. Absolutely. No question there. Information will always be out there in other places. And yes some people can sit in front of a manual and learn how to build a car. Others however can be intimidated by the process. Some artistic types for instance are all about the creative process and not the technical. Manuals and long reads for some are scary. Likewise, on the other side some technical minded people may be more intimidated by graphic design programs or drawing theories. Thats the beauty of GS, it allows all of us on both sides to come together. I imagine some people think that people who ask questions like these, are potentially lazy. Not wanting to seek out answers on their own like others have. Personally i can understand wanting a little help from friends on publishing. Its a scary process if you're not technically minded or driven. You're scared to death on screwing up the process and seeing your hard work get rejected. I kinda get wanting to ask those who have went through the process about their tips and experiences. I had to do it without forum help, but i wish i didn't have to. Which is why i tried my best to give the little knowledge i have on the matter to this post. To make the process a little easier. A little less intimidating. And yes this is an apple issue and not a GS issue. But that's like saying that if we were in an Adobe Illustrator forum, and someone asked, "what makes good design?"- that the answer would be "go to art school." Yes literally speaking those forums are not designed to answer questions like that. But is it wrong to ask? I mean here you are amongst all of these graphic designers, maybe it couldnt hurt to ask especially if your new to the game. People in the forum can potentially help ease that process. Give some inside tips and tricks. Again some will believe a question like that comes from laziness. I don't. I think some people are just nervous or intimidated by the process. Bravo to those who can build a car from a manual. Thats great! Its impressive. I'm certainly not one of those people. I could never learn from textbooks. I learned from discussion and hands on experience. I hope you don't read this as some kind of attack as that is not my intention. All friendly here! I guess for me i just think its more helpful to discuss than to keep saying go read a manual. I mean if you think about it, whats the point then of having a forum? Everything has a manual. By that logic these forums should simply be about bug reporting and announcing your game. The end.
Every question can simply be answered by this statement: "Read the cookbook. Learn math. Its not hard. Goodbye."
