Shall we just assume Tags just aren't getting fixed?

Hi Guys,

I've been having trouble with tags in that some actors respond to tag rules and some don't. I can't see any correlation between actors that are working with the tag rule and those that aren't. I think it's just a bug, but I'm seeing threads on this go back as far as 2010 so it doesn't look like it's ever been fixed. Shall I just assume that tags are unreliable in GS and if they haven't been fixed since 2010 it ain't happening? Has anyone found a good workaround?

Appreciate the advice in advance!

Cheers,

HK

I'm using tags a lot in my projects, never had problem with that, can you describe what is "not working?" For some actors in that tag? Is it collision?

Like wise, never had a problem with them... but then I don't always use them...

    Work perfectly for me

Yep works fine for me. Try trashing your copy of Creator and reinstalling.

I also use tags in just about every project i've ever done and never had any problems.

I have to agree with the "no problems" folks. Your best bet is to try what FBS said.

Used them in many projects. Never a problem

Hmmm... guess it's just me then. I'll try reinstalling I guess. For info - It's collision. I'm using line drawing and I don't want to be able to draw the line (which spawns line segments) over certain actors. If I do draw a line over those actors in the tag then the particular segment in the line automatically gets destroyed. It's a simple command and works fine with about 12 of the 15 actors. I can't find anything in common with the actors that it doesn't work for.

Just tried running it from another mac and getting the same issue, so it can't be a creator problem on my primary mac. If anyone has any thoughts here I'd appreciate it as I can't figure it out or see anything in common with the actors it works for or doesn't work for. Some are objects on screen, another is part of the HUD for example.

If it works fine on 12 out of 15 actors that tells me there is something else different/wrong with the 3 actors its not working on. Double check all your other behaviors and actions and see what else might be causing the issue perhaps?

If you can't find the issue after double checking, post some more details about how it functions and how it should function.

Thanks all. I'll take another look and see if there is anything I can find to provide more info, or upload some code to help. Appreciate all of the comments!! Thanks

Make sure atleast one of the 2 colliding actors has the moveable attribute checked off to true, otherwise they wont collide

    @HappyKat78
If you have a project that shows this problem, be sure to send it to me in IM and I'll get it looked at.

Ah ha, @DenimShark hit the nail on the head. I'm drawing a line over a scene (which spawns line segments) but destroys them if they overlap with certain actors (as I don't want to draw over or behind them). Is there a way around this as I don't want the line or the actors to be movable?

Thanks for solving the cause none the less!

Also, I tried changing self.physics.movable during the scene as that would have worked, but it doesn't seem to let me change it during the scene (well it does change it from true to false, but the behaviors don't actually seem to change)

    I'm sure @codewizzard want to take a look(if it's a bug)

Just bumping this to see if there is a way to get around this my previous comment. I was thinking I could make the objects moveable during the part where I'm drawing the line and then make them self.physics.moveable to false when I want the physics to start working, but it doesn't look like I can change self.physics.moveable during the scene for some reason. Looking for bright ideas to workaround this. :-)

    Thanks!

Sorry man it's not possible to change
    Movable of the fly.
What you can do is wrap all the collision/physics rules inside one big rule with a boolean and disable it by flag it down when nessecarry..

@Roy - Would you mind elaborating on your suggestion? I didn't quite understand what you were suggesting. Appreciate it! HK

physics can't be changed during gameplay unfortunately.
