It took 8 months, but I finally got A Long Way Home published in the Windows 8 store. Many of you followed along in the original thread two years ago when it was first released. Since then it was ported to Android, the iPhone and Mac App store. I'm happy to bring it to the Windows 8. Going through and making the necessary changes made me remember how much fun I had making this game, even if apple did muck up the featuring of it :)

This really is a fun game! Best of luck! Try to get it promoted again via outside game media and I'll point it out to folks internally.

Can you elaborate on what took so much longer to port this time?

it was a bunch of small things. The biggest was with the changes in 10.3 that broke my old rules that used interpolate for rotation. I had over 100 scenes with multiple actors in each one, many of which had to be altered manually.

The other big thing was the controls, since GS does not support multi touch on Win8 yet, and not all devices have an accelerometer, i had to rework all three control schemes.

finally there was a few small bugs I fixed, removed Game Center stuff, and redid the opening.

the rotation one was the biggest hurdle though, i did not want to open 100 scenes and fix them manually until stormystudio mentioned a fix in another thread a week or so ago.

I bought parallels just to do this. I've got a small 30GB win8 install on my macbook that I boot into to do functional testing. Once that passes I load it onto a win8 tablet to check touch controls.

For those of you who have Windows 8, can you download A Long Way Home and give it a review? There is a free 1 day trial right now, so it won't cost you anything :)
