The first try to make an actual game!

Hi all! I'm new to gamesalad(only started about a week ago) and have been trying a couple of tutorials and I plan on trying a few more before I even attempt a proper game. I was just wondering what you thought would be a nice simple game to make for a first try for when I get to that stage? Thanks!

    You could try making a Bejeweled type game with simple rules or a very simple sidescroller. Tshirtbooth has many useful videos on You Tube which helped me on my way to making my first game, Dodge Master, which is still a work in progress.

    I started with Asteroids, using the template provided by GS (I'm not sure if it's still available!).

    It was great to take that apart. It covers:

    Movement (thrust forward in direction you're facing, asteroid + bullet movement)
    Rotation (rotate ship left and right)
    Spawning (bullets shot as well as smaller asteroids if large asteroid is hit)
    Score keeping (score goes up when you shoot an asteroid)

    I mean, those are all the basics :D

    Cheers,

    QS =D

    My first was a keep it up game, it has simple physics, collisions, and scoring.

    Endless runners are fun to make :) If you want something simpler, ditch the side scrolling platformer runner and make a vertical-type one :)
