can i do this in openoffice for mac?

hi, iam trying to separe a word into columns, for example on column A i have the word "house" so i want to separate this word into columns like h- o- u- s -e but when i click on data tab and text to columns i can only separate words with commas,i will appreciate any help guys, i am really new to excel.thanks

    You might want to go to an open office support site and ask this...

    When you convert it from text to columns, choose fixed width and place a line between each character. I don't have OpenOffice but you can do this in Excel so you can probably do it in OpenOffice.
