Where's my Water Engine Template
Hello all,
I've been improving a very nice template by Deep Blue Apps, the water flow. Their water physics works very well, but with framerate being killed in iOS devices. I've been working on improving that, and I've got 50-55 fps working in Ipod 4th gen, so that's a good thing, I guess.
Check the progress in this small video. There are many features I'd like to add and hopefully release it in the future when all the features are added. I hope to achieve a nice "engine" for Where's my Water type games.
Thanks!
Check the youtube video link! It's a small demo, but it's a nice water flow!
WHAT IS DONE:
- Water physics and effects;
- Vertical tube UP (90 degrees);
- Rotating platform (automatic);
- Rotating platform (90 degrees, player activated);
- Seamless dirt/cookies that the player can remove: it's circle shaped, but it works very nice!
- Simple animated glass that gets filled when the water / juice / jam touchs it with attributes defined in order to change level.
-
WHAT TO DO:
- Bombs that destroy the dirt /cookies and splash the water everywhere;
- Artwork tutorial for the user to make cool levels with ease;
- 5 example levels with sample menu.

This time, using round blocks that the player can "clean" to achieve a more effective look and gameplay. I've tried as many as 30 blocks (actors) in game plus the scenery and the water, getting 40-50 fps in Ipod 4th gen.
To steady the framerate you'll have to use clever designing and particles. I can simulate a lot of water and still have the same number of actors, it's a question of design.
I'm working on making water go up too
Darren.
What should I try to do next?
I've finished making the player controlled platform for added gameplay ideas and level designs.
I've done :
- Water physics and effects, improved from the sample videos;
- Vertical tube UP (90 degrees);
- Rotating platform (automatic);
- Rotating platform (90 degrees, player activated, it will retain water to certain areas before the player clicks the platform);
- Seamless dirt/cookies that the player can remove: it's circle shaped, but it works very nice!
- Simple animated glass that gets filled when the water / juice / jam touchs it with attributes defined in order to change level.
Almost finished the five sample levels. *Missing only the bomb, but that's easy to implement.*
What feature you would like to see in this template? Please help!
EDIT : Changed the bomb idea to the fire /lighter one. If the water touches it, it vaporizes!
Final List of Features for version 1.0
- Realistic Water physics and effects;
- Vertical tube UP (90 degrees);
- Rotating platform (rotates 90 degrees, player activated, stays in place when touch pressed, returns to original position after touch released);
- Seamless dirt/cookies that the player can remove: it's circle shaped, but it works very nice!
- Simple animated glass that gets filled when the water / juice / jam touchs it with attributes defined in order to change level.
- Fire that vaporizes the water drops!
- 5 Example levels with all the features built in for the user to try.
- Artwork example that can be used for level testing, before creating your own.
- Free sound effects that can be used in level creation.
It allows to build games with water / fluid physics in GS!
The template features a steady 40-50 fps in Ipod 4th Gen, so it should perform even better in newer iOS devices. Will have customer support responded through email every time as soon as possible.
Thanks everyone! More info soon!
