Helped Needed With Background

TimeTime Member Posts: 113
Hello,

I am confused with an incident that includes parallax background, how do you make a parallax background the same as League of Evil or Random Heroes 1 & 2? It is a parallax background that is both vertical and horizontal (I think). What are the dimensions needed? I am very confused any help would be appreciated! Here are some images of the games:

@RThurman, thanks for the help but this is not what I'm looking for unfortunately, I need something like that YouTube video. I'm really stuck on this one.

im not sure on how to go about doing it but it looks like you'll have to make the background follow your character just a littile more offset then the level/floor/walls.

I think that template was made by @DeepBlueApps, can someone help me from there? @BurberryArts, do you know the dimensions needed?

Not sure what more help to give. You've been shown the best free examples I know of for doing parallax. Just stating vague objections just makes us guess what you really want.

Try stating specifically what you want, then what you have done (complete with code examples), and what is not working for you. The more you give, the more specific the answer can be.

Basically, I need a parallax background that is both vertical and horizontal, I've seen the "NewParallax" template before and I've tried to mod it but it's not going well. I need something like the YouTube video I linked earlier about LOE. As you can see in the video, it is both vertical and horizontal parallax. @RThurman. If anyone else knows how to do this, please let me know!

OK -- so its the vertical stuff that the examples are missing?

This isn't an answer, but how about studying the example found here:

It does not have the vertical component. But it does show in great detail how to do the horizontal component. Then you can just use the same equations to translate parallax into the Y dimension.

@RThurman, that's the problem, I know how to do horizontal parallax but not vertical. Can you manipulate what is in the YouTube video?

Vertical would be just the same as horizontal, except using the Y direction of movement instead of the X direction of movement.

@jamie_c, I understand that but I'm not having much luck with that. Also, whenever I enable the Y direction, my left starts not to work. Here is the file: http://www.mediafire.com/download/4o15n0t8i31sk2i/Untitled.zip,can you please check it out and see what I'm doing wrong?

Here is the simplest example I can think of. Study the principle ideas contained in the example and then try to apply them to your situation. You will also want to do a search and see if you can find articles on the principles of motion parallax.
