Start up screen

in Working with GS (Mac)
my start up screen doesn't look like in the tutorials. It looks like an empty application and not like the one in the tutorial that has multiple templates to start from, I'm not real sure if I'm opening it wrong or what but if anyone has run into this before please help ASAP. Please and Thank you

    Are you using windows? many/most tutorials are done in the macintosh version. The interfaces are different but the concepts are the same.
