Just joined GameSalad and need a little help!

I recently have started making a platform game and have a few questions.
1. Whenever I land after jumping I cant immediately move sideways. (I always have to release the left/right key after I land)
2. I would like to know how to speed up my game. Make my character move, jump and fall faster.
Thanks!

There is a great tutorial series on creating a platformer on Youtube.

Go to Youtube and look for gamesalad videos that are greater than 20 mins.
