Quantumsheep presents... "Air Supply - Infinite" Sam. Is. Back!
Hello!
I've been beavering away at another Air Supply game!
Hurrah!
It's based on a demo by @stormystudios - I saw a lot of potential in it and decided to try and finish *something* as my other projects were taking forever!
Originally this was going to take a month. That was two months ago, and I'm aiming for an end of September release…
So, Sam is back, this time running round whole planets, trying to get to 'The Void' where he can pick up an Infinity Cup!
Here's a work in progress screenshot:

Gameplay is simple. The basics are:
*Jump over aliens.
*Tap anywhere to jump.
*Double tap to activate a Smart Bomb (I think, therefore I am).
*Don't forget your AIR IS RUNNING OUT!
There's a lot more to it than that. The real challenge was… well, putting some challenge into the game!
Ostensibly you're running around a circle and jumping. That wasn't enough for me, so I put in all the Air Supply usual suspects - air running out, pickups, unlocks etc etc.
Still not enough. So I've added a 'finite' mission that you can complete (though it'll probably take a while) and that's where the aforementioned Infinity Cups come in.
And there's more. But this is just me announcing the game
No trailer as yet, but I thought I'd post a 'Music Teaser' video that should whet your aural appetites:

For the retroheads out there, the music tracks were written on a ZX Spectrum/ZX81 with an AY chip.
I'm hoping this one will be a universal build, with GameCenter leaderboards and achievements
Thanks for tuning in! I'll try and keep you updated on what's happening.

That music is awesome too
@QuantumSheep
Looking (and sounding) good, QS; retro and stylish; loving the graphics in the screenshot and the music in the vid. Best of luck with the progress of it. :-)
Exciting to say the least!! Can't wait to give this a go!
LOVE the music too!! It's very sheepy indeed!
Seriously thank you for the little acknowledgement you must have done an awful lot with it to create a more in-depth game out of it. I did adapt it a little myself at one point and created a reindeer sleigh riding christmas game that we pitched to a client at work (We were making a kids christmas animation with lots of sleigh rides at the time, but it did'nt fly :-)
Just listened to the music... all I can say is... Damn you... damn you and your fine music skills and taste in hardware...

NN all!
Waiting to see some kick a** stuff from you.
I've had some sleep now, so thank you all for your kind words!
@Mr_Rinroy @matarua @basseman @boomshackbarry
I pay a wonderful friend and musician to do the music for me - I've been listening to his tracks for years, and he makes the music exclusively for pretty much all my games now, but I do use others from time to time. As @butterbean says, "It's very sheepy" (thanks!)
Hopefully, Sinclair machines will live on through the music and the games! It's pretty wonderful
@StormyStudio
Thanks for the demo. It served as a great inspiration!
For various reasons I haven't released a *new* game in almost 2 years now. The ones I was working on (and there are many) were all too big and taking forever to do.
So I was just thinking about making something smaller and more manageable, just to get something out there and get back into the whole game-making stuff again. That's when I stumbled upon your demo!
It's interesting you were going to do something with this yourself. I think the base idea is awesomely addictive in and of itself (a bit like how I find endless runners intrinsically addictive), but it's not enough, imho, on its own to support a full game. Which is why I've spent three months+ now adding, tweaking and tuning as much as I can.
It's all in the execution! I hope you'll enjoy the results!
@jonmulcahy
You say that about all my games! Thank you! *sheepyhugs*
@butterbean I have missed you. I'm happy that we may get to chat again due to a game! Games should bring people together after all
Thanks all! I'd best get back to it! I finally got the scanlines looking right yesterday, most of the player characters and most of the aliens for each planet. Still a long way to go!
I'll keep people updated here if they like. I'm planning on releasing at least one more music teaser, and more screenshots, obviously.
If you want to keep totally up to date, I post frequent nonsense and game related stuff on my twitter account @quantum_sheep
I post less frequently on my facebook account but it's focussed purely on my game updates, so it's a little more filtered! https://www.facebook.com/Quantumsheepgames
I tend to use social media to post images and videos as it's just a lot quicker and easier than writing a long blog/forum post!
Anyway, thanks again all! Much appreciated. Back to work!

Just a quick update and a quick screenshot!
This is a guest appearance (again!) by The Gravonaut, a Nexus Games Studio character that they've kindly let appear in my games!
He's caught in a UFO tractor beam, which holds him in place for a few seconds.
Luckily, he has three smartbombs in reserve, and air + full air pickups are on their way down!
Still a few things to do but I'm hoping to have a test version out to people by the weekend!
Thanks for looking!

Shame Sam isn't indestructible :O

It's another of those games that looks better in a video than it does in screenshots. Got the UFO working well and now onto the asteroids!
Busy, busy Sheepy
Your ears will love you for it

I'm looking forward to getting this finished!

You can spot some very early gameplay VINE vids on my Facebook page, but they are VERY early!
Here's one I took yesterday just showing off the rainbow effect a little:
It's just the options screen, but I think you get the idea!

So it's been with testers the past 2-3 days and it's really rammed home to me a few things:
1. Testers don't ever read the release notes
2. New control methods have been suggested, which I would never have thought of!
3. In general people seem to like the game, but are unaware of certain features (see point 1, but also it reinforces how important it is to make things obvious!).
Now it's just a lot of hard work to implement suggestions and actually finish the damn thing!
Cheers, and ty to the testers for their help!
