The only downside is the relative uniformity. Nothing much changes throughout the game, except for a faster meteor spawn rate.
Adding one or two more types of meteors could break the mold.
Also, buying extra points could be cheaper -- one extra point, lasting you one game, currently costs the same as a level-one permanent upgrade. Don't see players buying points until they are fully maxed.
And while I understand you want to capitalize on the IAP, you have to do so in a manner that doesn't alienate the players. A level-one upgrade is 2500, level-two 5000, I imagine it doubles onwards. Count with me -- 2.5+5+10+20=37.5 -- six categories to upgrade, so 225000 points overall. Then there are the asset point system upgrades, coming t 10000 for level-one, dunno about level-two. Yes, one makes the other upgrades cheaper, but you still need to invest heavily.
An average game nets roughly 1000 points.
That's a ton to crunch through, and the upgrades don't bring substantial changes to gameplay (just make better things you have already).
For most players, I think the input won't be worth it and while they might play for a bit, they'll give up on the game long before they get the last upgrade. And that is a shame.
