Selling Mac Apps on Amazon and the Apple Mac App Store

Hi Guys,

I have a question which I can't find a definitive answer to. Can you sell Mac apps on Amazon and on the Apple Mac App Store at the same time ??? I have done some google searches with no luck. I searched the Mac App Store and Amazon to see if some Mac apps were listed on both stores but only found one app which was listed on both ... From what I can see if you list your app on the Apple Mac Store you can't sell it anywhere else ... The reason I ask is that at the moment I don't have the money to buy a Mac developer account but thought maybe I could list some Mac apps on Amazon then at a later date list them on the Apple Mac Store. If someone can confirm my conclusion or enlighten me that would be great. Thank you ... ;-)

    i think you are confusing a few things.

    there are iOS apps
    Android Apps
    Windows 8 Store Apps
    Mac App Store apps

    all of these can have the same source project if you plan ahead, but when compiling them you choose which store you want to target. Windows 8 Store apps can only be sold in the windows 8 store. Mac apps can only be sold in the Mac App Store, same with iOS apps. Android apps are the exception. You can take your single app and publish it on Google Play, Amazon App Store, Nook and Samsung 100% indie.

    Thanks for the reply @jonmulcahy ... I understand what you are saying. I am talking about MAC Apps not apps for other platforms ie OS X apps only. You can distribute your non signed mac apps that you have made with GS. You only need to sign with a developer cert if you are uploading to the Apple Mac App Store. I have not completed my research but my guess is that you would upload your unsigned mac app to Amazon then they would sign it for you as we do with Android apps or you can sell them privately ... ;-) I just don't think Apple will allow an app to be listed on Apple and Amazon or private sites at the same time and that is what I need to confirm as I can't find a definitive/clear answer to that question ... I think you can either sell the app privately or list it on the Mac Apple App Store not both.

    I have loaded signed and unsigned Mac apps on Amazon store;
    but with really poor sales results, 1 or 2 copies every 3 months.
    but the better store for macs apps is the official Apple mac store.

    however, many developers sell or distribute their unsigned apps
    on their sites.

    Yes my suggestion is to sell your Apps in the Apple Mac store
