HELP! HUD controls invisible when testing unscrollable layer

I'm working on a verticle scrolling game. The camera follows the actor as it falls through the level. I want a reset hud button in the upper right corner to click if the player screws up and wants to restart quickly. I've set up a new Scene Layer, dragged my HUD button onto the main screen (which starts at the highest point of the level y= 6,000-ish), added the reset button to the new layer set, and changed the layer to unscrollable by clicking the box next to it.

Now when I go to test the game, my HUD button is invisible. Go back and uncheck the scrollable box. Go to test and it's visible again, but pans off the screen as the actor falls.

What am I doing wrong? I've been through every HUD tutorial that exists. I've searched for other threads with this problem and found none. Why does making the layer set unscrollable make my layers invisible? Is this a GameSalad bug?

Make sure the HUD actors are placed at the start of the scene area inside the camera frame area. No higher than the device targeted screen size. So say iphone the y hight of the HUD will be 320 pixels.
