Sha Cat - Is live:
So my second game title made with game salad just went live today. I would be grateful for some reviews or simply just downloads of you guys. I'm also wondering what you guys think about the game concept and If I should invest more time in it (patches) or move on.

    I'll try it now.

Lovely graphic and very nice music.

But the interface can be confuse at time (for me).

I figure what do the purple ball in the lower-left do on stage 5

Nice game impact. feel a bit rush at time between cut-scene and game play.
I like the app name too.

Hope it goes well in the appstore :D

@myrainyworld thanks for the download and the feedback! Jeah I realized the complexity of the game mechanic UI when I handed the game around in my family, specially when the "none gamers" played it. But now is it as it is. And I gonna work on the first update with new levels.

Liked - another spiritual beat-em up - nice one :)

  • BigDaveBigDave Member Posts: 2,239

@matarua Thanks :) Jeah I'm kind of stuck there, will make a simple side game soon to expand my horizon a bit further, playing with gravitiy. Beside of the upcoming Sha Cat patches, with more levels :)

    @‌BigDave

I am by no means an authority on anything - I've not sold millions of copies of a game, or won awards, or left anywhere in a very grumpy fashion - BUT:

I think the overall polish of the game is great!

The combat system is fantastic - seriously, it's how I would have done it ;)

The tutorial might have been better - I had no idea what I was doing at first (but soon 'got' it). For instance, I thought one particular level was impossible to get past, till I remembered I could 'dress up' my cat. Making the link between 'dressing' and 'upgrading stats' more obvious might help!

The graphics... well, they're very good, but not to my personal taste. I'm sure others would enjoy them though!

I understand your frustration - you put a lot of work and effort into your game, and then... 'nothing'.

Honestly, I sometimes wonder if I'm releasing my game on the same App Store that loads of people seem to be having fun on!

But EVERYONE on this forum has been there.

    E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E

The best you can do, in my opinion, is to go on to the next game. And the next. And the next.

Building a portfolio of quality titles will help you more than anything. Engage with your players - find the sweet spot between what they want and what you want to make.

But don't give up. Because you obviously care about your games.

And that's far more than most people these days!

    Hope that helps somehow!

    QS =D

    @quantumsheep‌
Thank you very much for these kind words :)
Giving up is no option, I already decided that this is my path, even if that means I will have to work 80% for companies to make it work. I love games since my first contact with them. This sounds weird but for me they appeared highly spiritual and If you now look how strongly the industry has developed - or in other words where the human species put's it's attention to, you have a direct indication that games are a integral part of our evolution as species.

Back to the actual game, I heard now from several edges that the graphics may scare of some people. I'm not an graphics designer and spend around 70% of the development on the art. A huge junk I would like to reduce. In future I will make my art much simpler, for development and appealing reason.

Regarding the tutorial and difficulty curve, I realized even when I made the game much easier (based on the feedback of my girlfriend) as a designer the tendency to make it hard/challenging is much above what you can expect from a new player. Since there is this natural skeptic against this new "thing". And I was a little to rough with the players this time.

Today Sha Cat Patch 1.1 went Live!
I put in 8 new levels with new abilities.

Additionally I made a small ball physics game within 3 days using game center and iADS. To expand :)

Thank again, I was very happy to read your comment!

I would be careful of simple side games as they can quite easily turn in to complex main games. That's what happens with me anyway! ;)

I think the game looks fantastic, it is easy to tell that a ton of work went into it. I think the art is great but I can see the style not appealing to some people.

  • BigDaveBigDave Member Posts: 2,239

@BazookaTime‌ Yeah have to figure a more universal style for future games.
