Thoughts on downloading the iOS 8 beta

Conifer_AppsConifer_Apps Member Posts: 100

I'm not sure if it's available yet to developers, but I'm seriously considering downloading the iOS 8 beta release. For those out there who have played with early iOS betas (iOS 7 betas, iOS 6 betas, etc) before, are the rumors about app crashes and battery drain all true? Should I (impatiently) wait? Or should I download it? I'd really like to hear your advice and experiences.

  • Ive downloaded it and its not bad at the moment. Yes it is only beta but personally I haven't found too many bugs on my 5s yet I really like some of the new features!

I had some bad experiences with the iOS 7 beta so I won't be downloading iOS 8 until official release in the Fall.

@Single_Team_Productions so no battery drain issues or anything like that?

@Braydon_SFX what problems did you have with iOS 7?

I'm debating the iOS 8 as well but may just wait as I ended up uninstalling iOS 7 beta after a few revisions because it was extremely buggy and crashy for me

iOS 7 sucked my battery life like crazy. I mean super bad. Also, odd bugs kept me from really using it. It was so bad I had to revert back to iOS 6 which in itself was a hassle I'm not willing to put up with. Granted, this doesn't happen to all devices, so I'm not in anyway saying that you or anyone else shouldn't download it.

I have it and the only problem I have at the moment is that they App Store doesn't load fast at all and I can't figure out how to get the health app to work

never install beta software on your only dev device! with iOS7 there were tons of people complaining when game salad didn't work with ioS7 and they were SOL until it was released.

if you have an extra beta device, then go for it.

Alright, thanks everyone. Looks like that will be a no. But from what I've heard OSX Yosemite is a stable pre-release so I'm going to download that.

Ok, yelling is ahead: DONT DOWNLOAD OSX YOSEMITE IF YOU PLAN ON USING GAMESALAD. My post on this is here:

Sadly I will be reverting back to Mavericks soon. However, Yosemite is awesome and I can't wait to see everything working. Strangely enough, all my other apps work just fine...

iOS 8 hasn't been working good for me. I have had a lot of lag with animations and touches not registering/calibration off.

Hmmm... Thanks for the info @bjandthekatz

This is the soundest advice you can get right here.
