Yep, thank you for these @dgackey , both as incentives and opportunities for us.

The Tips for publishing on Fire TV from Amazon -Link is great!

Looks great, I'm sure I'll be entering something.

Looks interesting. However, "3 randomly selected games" makes me not want to participate. It'd make more sense to me if people could vote/the games would be judged instead of just selecting three at random.

I think they're picking random because of the issues they've encountered the last few promotions.

Yeah I guess so. But there's still an issue, aren't they basically giving people the opportunity to spam in entries (greatly increasing their chances of winning)?

unlike previous contests, you are only elligable if you actually publish a game to the fireTV store, which means it has to be approved by apple amazon (oops), which SHOULD weed out all the bad entries

  • jamie_cjamie_c ImagineLabs.rocks Member, PRO Posts: 5,772

@jonmulcahy, you mean approved by Amazon.... ;)

@jonmulcahy ...would be nice to think that would be the case regarding weeding out bad entries/low quality spam games...

...but going by what got published onto Amazon via the GameSalad Arcade, it doesn't look like Amazon really care or check for quality that much... as there was all sorts of low quality crap that got through, including plenty of games that had serious copyright infringements of well known popular games amongst other issues.

So Im not sure if it would be any different!.. they seem to just want the volume of apps...

  • ArmellineArmelline Member, PRO Posts: 5,398

Don't underestimate the value to Amazon of being able to say "Over 1 million apps available!" They're still well below that, whereas Apple is comfortably over it.

    Hi team, wondering?

My pro licence just ran out! :/ do I need pro status to enter the promotion! If not am I still able to receive free pro months for games published or do you have to have pro status for that!

Anyways great work in this guys :)

but from what I can tell, the Amazon -> GS Arcade was a bulk upload, it didn't go through any of the normal quality checks. I've submitted close to 20 games to amazon over the past few years, and while not as strict at apple, they do actually test the games. I've had a few rejected for not working.
It won't be perfect, but it should be better than the past game jams.

@jay2dx, judging by the detailed info if you follow the link to the promotion it sounds like it's open to all Mac users, free or paid.

And for a limited time, Amazon is making Fire TV publishing free for ALL GameSalad Mac users!

What platform do I choose when creating the new game? I can't see Fire TV and I'm on 13.6...

EDIT: I just saw the Fire TV tab on the publishing page so I guess there is no Fire TV platform lol. So I'm guessing it is Kindle Fire, right??

In the past it has been all at once at the end of the promotion.

Correct, it will be at the end of the promotion.

it doesn't really matter, so long it is a 16:9 resolution. however, since you are targeting 1080p TVs, if you are starting brand new, I'd start with whatever project size is 1920x1080

  • freneticzfreneticz SwedenMember, PRO Posts: 777

There are no Project that is 1920x1080, can you just change the size and camera size to that....and its all good?

that sounds good thanks, wonder if there are performance issues with running a project scene at 1080p? does anyone have experience testing this?

also fire tv is £64 on amazon uk rite now? just bought one, to test my games on, but mainly for its emulation of retro consoles functionality :)

    thanks jay..

How do I connect a fire tv stick remote to a mac to test? Or can I load apk's directly to the fire tv stick to test?

you need to sideload the apk directly to the device to test, there are a ton of tutorials out there, just do a quick google and you'll find more than you need.

  • blue_elephantblue_elephant Member Posts: 505

    Oh got it thanks

    @jonmulcahy
What about using the remote to test directly on the Mac? Also I do all the side loading steps and then when I try to install I get this error:
    Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES]
    Thanks for the help

  • blue_elephantblue_elephant Member Posts: 505

@BlackCloakGS how do I connect the fire remote to the viewer?

  • BlackCloakGSBlackCloakGS Member, PRO Posts: 2,250

Put the android viewer on the FireTv and connect the remote to the FireTv.
