Jump Jack - Gameplay footage - Impression and Feedback wanted

Hello Gamesalad community. Wanted to show you all what I've been working on since I joined the community almost a year ago. Also wanted to thank the community for all the help and support in creating this game. The game is called Jump Jack, its an action retro platformer, with challenging gameplay and precise controls like many old school platformers.

Would love to hear feedback and impressions. Also I recently put together a Facebook page and twitter account that I would love to get some followers for as I will be posting updates about the game. Would also love to follow your projects as well.

Thanks for checking it out.

It looks great for me, liked the "Megamanish" and retro style. Also your game require very good reflexes, for example in 0:08 you blocked a bullet with your shield, I´m very impressed haha
    Good game, it´s fun.

Ha glad you caught that it does happen fast. The shield can reflect bullets and block missiles. While this requires reflexes the game has very quick levels where once you die you start back up pretty quickly, so you learn from your mistakes. Also you may notice that there are multiple paths you can take, some to avoid enemies others to attack enemies and keep your combo going. Thanks for the reply!

@Braydon_SFX‌ @jay2dx‌ @stahboy‌ thanks for the kind words!

  • Hey everyone here is updated footage of that level, more to come

We are nearing beta testing and then our release, probably within the next couple months. Would love to hear others impressions.

Thanks @goliath we are getting excited as we near release.
I also wanted to thank the gamesalad community for being awesome. The reason I chose to go with gamesalad and was able to learn it so fast was from the quick responds and help from people in the community early on. Looking back through some of my questions I want to thank guys like @The_Gamesalad_Guru @jamie_c @tatiang @socks and probably a bunch others. You guys obviously have a desire for other game devs to succeed and help a lot of people get there games made. Didn't want the help to go unnoticed. Without this community I probably wouldn't have finished this game, or looked for a tool elsewhere.

looks like a perfect candidate for gamepad support :)

  • goliathgoliath Member Posts: 1,440

I agree with @jonmulcahy Have you given that any thought? Seems like it would be a good fit.

This game looks awesome! Will you be releasing this for iOS anytime soon @RossmanBrothersGames ?

Lookin good! I really like the camera shake in the first video but, I don't notice it so much in the other two. jonmulcahy is right though, this would be perfect for gamepad support. Let me know when its on Fire TV and I'll check it out for sure! Good luck!

@socks thanks, I like to mention those who have helped because I so often see people on these forums helping out a ton, even uploading and providing demos. You may not often see the results of the help given early on.

@jonmulcahy @goliath I think gamepad support could be cool, unfortunatley the game doesn't perform as well on android at the moment. The physics seem to play a little differently and some events don't fire quite right. With the difficult and precise controls this game has I would really have to get this figured out. And while the game is built for touch screen, (no directional buttons it auto runs) I still think real buttons could make the game even more enjoyable. I do have a firetv at work that I could try it out on, but focusing on iOS release right now.

@supafly129 Thanks! should be out on iOS before summer if all goes to plan.

@8bitninja Thanks, still considering the camera shake. The reason I took it out for the moment is it looks better on video than when playing the game, sometimes it made it more difficult to see what was going on in the fast paced game when you would have to jump on multiple enemies in a row, however maybe I'll put it back in with a more subtle shake.

Looks very good! Nice flow :)

  • RossmanBrothersGamesRossmanBrothersGames Member Posts: 659

    @The_Gamesalad_Guru thanks!

@Dues Thanks, these are examples of how it flows when you master a level. You can't beat a level just by getting through it, or earn achievements and unlock things by beating levels getting the full combo. It is a very difficult game, but once you get it the flow is great. Makes for a very relentless difficult game with very rewarding accomplishments. It will feel nice to finally perfect a level that you struggled at over and over.

Great looking game! This isn't at all needed but I thought it could add atmosphere by having clouds scrolling in the background. Could be really neat seeing silohuettes of clouds going across the moon. Perhaps we could see a witch or E.T. and Elliot as flying across in silohuette too haha

@dreichelt thanks for the input! I may need to try the clouds and see how it looks, could definitely add to it. I think I actually had some prototype clouds in the very early builds of the game. We have some pretty sweet clouds in our snow levels:
