Which icon?

Hi all.

I would like some feedback on the following icons. Vote 1 for 1 and 2 for 2(the blue one)

I have been using the Yellow background one for a while as a placeholder but made a new icon to Gage.

1

2

Or if anyone has any suggestions, its very welcome. The game is to catch 100 balls in the bucket while avoiding the black ball

    I would say nr 1

It "pops" a bit more :)

    too much elements.
    none of these 2

reduce to the most important 1 to 3 elements

to much going on if its smaller

Shrink it down to 114x114 and see how it'll look on a device

I think they both could do with a bit more improvement - less clutter & more white space.
But from the two I would say the first.

Like I thought, the orange one is much better.

It's important to always resize the icon to 114, it's a good approximation of how it will look on the device screen, as you can see below, when it's small it's hard to make out the details, and everything blends together.

I had no idea that iOS uses 114s. Tiny! Here's another one. I think the bucket and balls are important because if I just have the main spawners(like the first two icons),people may not understand what the game is. Or Catch 100 balls title could give that away. Who knows

it's still too muddled at 114px, the largest item on the icon is white and blends in with te background, you want to enlarge everything, make it pop!

    I prefer an orange BG.

Thanks all so far for ideas etc. Here's a different one

  • jonmulcahyjonmulcahy Member, Sous Chef Posts: 10,408

that one looks much better, but the cup in the background still gets lost. @FallingBoxStudios had a good idea. focus on the elements that will stand out the most. You don't need to have the icon describe how to play the game, just make it exciting and fun.

    Just summarizing your results here

I personally would take the last one make a plan color background, increase the size of the elements a bit. (the skull one a bit more then the others)

This comes close to the original

They already did a good job with their icon.

You want to say, "ITS THIS GAME YOU KNOW IT, BUT IT HAS ALSO THIS X, AND THAT MAKES IT EVEN BETTER)

So what is it that makes it better?
And once you have it put it efficiently into the icon without disturbing the fist part of the meaning.

Ive removed the bucket, so I think this is the one. I was thinking of the blue but orange stands out which is what I want!

  • FallingBoxStudiosFallingBoxStudios Freelance Graphic Designer Member Posts: 822

    much better!

looks great, how about enlarging the skull balls like 100%? I think they will fill the space better

  • jigglybeanjigglybean Member Posts: 1,584

@BigDave My game is nothing like 100 balls. The only similarities are the bucket and balls. I wanted originally to keep the bucket to try and attract the 100 balls crowd because this game is really aimed at them.

Can you do transparent backgrounds on iOS for icons?

  • jigglybeanjigglybean Member Posts: 1,584

    final?

  • BigDaveBigDave Member Posts: 2,239

    sexy

  • FallingBoxStudiosFallingBoxStudios Freelance Graphic Designer Member Posts: 822

    Perfect :)
But that won't work on ios since it has to be that rounded sqaure shape

Putting it in a rounded white/neutral box might work for the ios requirements. But you would lose some detail from resizing unfortunately.
The final result is very pleasing to the eye none the less :)
