Its easy to forget we were all beginners at some point and struggled to understand the basics so i decided to make a simple follow along video tutorial for a space game.

Its advised you download the art from the link below and watch the video (pausing as needed) to follow along and learn as you go.

Things you will learn are as follows.

Importing images.

Making new actors and changing there size and name.

Making actors move and rotate via touch position.

Best practises i.e. turning off movable on non moving actors.

Scene layers.

Tags to save you doing lots of collide rules.

Spawning actors in a random position and destroying spawned actors when you die.

Using game and self attributes.

Making a game harder over time.

Game over and reseting actors X&Y positions along with the rotation of the actor.

Restarting the game instantly without reloading the scene.

Download the art and source code here.

Depending how popular this is i will make a part 2 that will include invincible power up, fuel, save and load a high score from a table, collecting stars, scene wrap, title page, instructions for how to play etc.

PS I'm a little rusty as i haven't opened GS in nearly 3 months but somehow (more luck than judgement) managed to do the video in 1 take.

I guess I'm the newbie. Just downloaded everything. I'll see what I can do.

Success! My first time using gamesalad and I was able to replicate everything and understand what I was doing. I'll have to try tweaking the project next to see what improvements I can make to the tutorial.
One thing, if anyone else follows this tutorial make sure to start in an iPad Landscape.
