    This article brings up a fantastic point about intended audience.

    Does the artist who spends "a million billion hours" really expect the average consumer to understand and appreciate their labors of love the same as a professionally trained critic would?

    An artist who works for art's sake must realize that, in all probability, only a fraction of viewers are going to "get" what they're trying to do.

    Yes, excellent point made, @Summation. I guess if it's "the artist's blood" it's a labour of love for them and subconsciously doesn't matter that the full extent of their effort goes unnoticed. Hooray for that!
