Apple to allow anyone with an Apple ID to install on their own device - no dev account needed

One great bit of news for the GameSalad community to come out of WWDC:

Xcode 7 and Swift now make it easier for everyone to build apps and run them directly on their Apple devices. Simply sign in with your Apple ID, and turn your idea into an app that you can touch on your iPad, iPhone, or Apple Watch. Download Xcode 7 beta and try it yourself today. Program membership is not required.

Excellent news for those wanting to make and test their game without forking over the $99. You'll still need a developer account to publish to the App Store, and presumably to test IAP and GC, since they require setup in iTunes Connect.

    Great news ! :)

This is awesome. It means you can develop your game until you are very happy with it and pay only once you are ready for the next step. Cool!

I just renewed my apple membership a month ago, but its great they took this step forward. But how is this going to work app ID's, Bundle Identifiers, and app signing signing?

Keep in mind...at least as I just read this....its for Xcode 7 AND Swift. So if you making an app with swift this works just fine. Don't expect this to be helpful to us GS'ers though. Swifter' club only...

I didn't read anything about Swift, just Xcode 7. Sad if that's so.

We'll see how it's implemented. You load in ad-hoc builds through Xcode anyway, so it might not matter whether the .app bundle was compiled by Xcode or not.

So does this mean the GS viewer will be easier to update and install?

Any further insight as to what this means (if anything) to Gamesalad users?

  • tmanntmann Member Posts: 278

At the moment you will need Xcode 7 to generate a free development certificate and any provisioning profiles. I have managed to load the Viewer and a GS app on an iPhone 6.

all this without having to go to the apple dev site and do all that headache?
