How to side-scroll smoothly using touch?

I'm trying to pan a scene sidewards smoothly using touch controls (similar to how you can pan safari but sideways) and I'm stumped. Can anyone please help?

    I created a free image carousel (iphone style) for Gamesalad using a scroll camera technique if you're interested.
