    related to the google play /android crashes I got a player which
    described this

    game slows down over play sessions
    game crashes
    game doesn't start properly anymore

    ->cleaning out ram with an extra tool

    game works again

    EDIT (6.7.2017): I gave this same player a reward the in-apps for free and he said the problem is not longer appearing. The in-apps remove the advertising (chartboost vids, pop ups and admob banners)

    I had this issue after 30-45 minutes of playing a gamesalad game on an s7 , it slows down overtime, lags and the device heat up. I thought it happened when you design your whole game in one scene but not sure about that.

    This is why I am not a fan of big one scene games. You miss out on the garbage collection that happens during scene changes. You are simply trading issues, scene load times vs ram buildup.

    I can see that and 30 to 45 is a big number to stay within one scene.

    My scenes are never open for 30-45 minutes maximal 10 minutes(premium user).
    (quests change scene and different locations where the player can switch too, for none premium (majority) ad videos every 3-4 minutes reset the scene).

    The persisting cluttered RAM that even prevents new game sessions (after totally closing the app) to properly function is something that should be investigated.

    @ForumNinja
    Can you confirm that you guys are aware of it?

    I'm keeping up with this thread, and that sounds like an interesting issue. I haven't had time to investigate it as of yet, but agree that it should be looked into.

    Judging by your guys descriptions here, it sounds like there could be a deep rooted problem, something simpler that's related to ads, or a combination of the two. It sounds like there's a lot of variables.

    Do you use a scene change for ads or pause scene? A pause will not result in garbage collection.

    It is painful to change the camera size and maintain HUD actors size and position. We need an easy way to zoom in/out without effecting the HUD layer or specific actors , maybe a lock to maintain its scale. If anyone thinks its a useful feature please vote .

    THIS is a bloody great idea, especially considering camera tricks are generally required for true none-lossy universal compatibility - and this is also why I didn't add zoom in and out for my Gravity Star game - would have been a nightmare....

    But yeah, this would be AWESOME....

    I use change ad with no ads. But seriously don't people hate the ads? Just wondering what you guys think?

  • BigDaveBigDave Member Posts: 2,239

    Its good that they hate them, if they love your game more they will buy the in-app to remove them.

    Ads are a great way of earning money as an indie developer, so I like them a lot! As a gamer I doubt anybody likes ads - but since people just don't want to pay for games upfront anymore that's the way it has to be.

    @ForumNinja @adent42 Is there any chance we might get tile map feature ? or atleast import layout from a free tiled editor. It is important to both developers and students. I just want to know if it is possible in the future.

  • NKBDLNKBDL Member, PRO Posts: 100

    Umm good points... I have never tried the GS ads. I will think about it.

    The sad part is that we almost DO have the ability to use tilemaps.

    The only thing missing in the tiling options of an actor is an X/Y offset.

    If we had that, we could use tilemaps. Even animate through a sequence of images.

  • IceboxIcebox Member Posts: 1,485

    I hope they do it , its annoying that I have to cut a 256 x 256 image into 32x32 images then import them to gs. We should be able to import it as a tile map and drag the tiles into the scene without going through all this.

  • HopscotchHopscotch Member, PRO Posts: 2,782

    @Icebox of course.

    The argument has always been that it requires an engine change, and I get that.

    Still I think that adding an offset, given all the other parameters already accounted for, should be manageable, especially since it is such a base feature of game development.

    Would even be a great little PR thing to the current developer base: "Look, we haven't forgotten you, as promised" What say you @Brent?

    The dev team is still plugging away at building the tool. We're shooting for an early beta by mid June and a wider beta in July, so I'm heads down on that.

    @ForumNinja @bdusing @adent42 Did things go according to plan ?? Was there an early beta ? I don't mind waiting but i want to know the progress , and please update the state with a new thread ( even if its education update ) , i know you have been updating us the past month here in the comment section, but the forum is dead (no threads no posts ). First time i refresh the page and don't see any new thread for a whole day. I like the forums alot so please keep it active :)

    The Forum, this community and the promise of things to come are the only things that keep me paying my subscription.

    My other work has kept me too busy recently to spend any time using GameSalad. The closest I've come to starting a new project is just thinking about what I might attempt when the new version is released.

    Until then, please keep us in the loop and I'll keep subscribing. :smiley:

    @Icebox

    We did have an early beta and the new web version has been coming along quite nicely. Lots of bugs have been fixed.

    I believe the idea is to migrate over to an open beta that anyone can join this week, and I'll have a new state of GameSalad post to go along with that :)

    @Adrenaline That was the plan last I heard ;) I'll keep you guys posted with how it pans out, as I believe there's still a little scalability work that needs to be done first.
