edited April 2020 in GameSalad Kitchen

GameSalad will be moving forums soon (from Vanilla Commercial to a self hosted Vanilla Forum).
We had been waiting for Vanilla to coordinate with us, but we didn't hear anything for a while and then suddenly they initiated the cancellation procedure.

We hope for a smooth transition with at most a day of downtime.

Thanks!

We're still tweaking it, but if you want to take a look at the new forums (don't post anything it's gonna get wiped on the import).

Woah - the old forum look is gone! 😮

EDIT: And what the heck - my avatar banner is green now instead of purple. 0.o

    Better?

    Well... thats different!

It might take some getting used to but I am sure it will be OK.

    Still the same functionality?

We lost a few things, mostly around badges. You'll be getting a new set of badges when you log in.

I figured it's time for an update. Hopefully people don't rail against change too much.

Suddenly I have 7000 notifications but we don't seem to have lost anything of importance (need to check the old attachments though) so no complaints from me!

I don't think search is working. It never finds anything for me no matter what I search for.

I'm going to put on my "longest-standing member" hat for a moment and say that if anyone feels the need to complain about a new forum theme while you've been putting more attention towards the Creator and the community itself than we've seen in *close to a decade* then they've got their priorities in very much the wrong place.

That said I'm not seeing the like/agree etc. buttons. Hopefully they make a reappearance at some point, but no big deal if they don't.

Oohh... New game title "Rail Against Change"

I am sure everything will be fine😁

I really enjoyed the gamification portion of the forums (badges, leaderboards, likes, etc). Is this coming back?

  • RThurmanRThurman Member, Sous Chef, PRO Posts: 2,881

@Braydon_SFX -- it will be fun to start over with badges. As long as you get to be in charge of awarding them!

Perhaps this would be a good time to clean up the categories. (For example, I don't think we will need the grapheme alpha tester categories anymore.)

Yes and also the loooooong stickies. Hello to you all on the other side! (missingh the likes/agree ect. They were very relevant to the context of the group

So they are there, but they require a hover (we're still tweaking thing when we find replacements to existing stuff. Hover near the bottom of the screen and you'll see the new reactions.

Wow. It looks much cleaner and nicer. Welcome to the modern age.

Definitely a big change, but most everything seems to be in order! Cleaner too.

The search function doesn't seem to be working. The following message is returned after attempting a search: "Can't find FULLTEXT index matching the column list"

Looks kinda weird, but if it's free more power to you. I looked up the costs of Vanilla before - it's expensive!

  • pinkio75pinkio75 Member, PRO Posts: 1,217

Yes it's sa little bit weird and more poor than vanilla but probably is more cheap for GS.

  • adent42adent42 Key Master, Head Chef, Executive Chef, Member, PRO Posts: 3,224

@Hypnorabbit @pinkio75 it's actually one of vanilla's default themes (we're using the OSS version of vanilla).

For everyone, we'll be looking to restore search & attachments soon!

  • NBWNBW Member, PRO Posts: 8

@adent42 - many thanks for looking to restore search capability.

  • adent42adent42 Key Master, Head Chef, Executive Chef, Member, PRO Posts: 3,224

So search works again for me. Give it a shot!

  • jamie_cjamie_c ImagineLabs.rocks Member, PRO Posts: 5,772

No matter what I search for I still only get this message:

Can't find FULLTEXT index matching the column list

  • adent42adent42 Key Master, Head Chef, Executive Chef, Member, PRO Posts: 3,224

ugh... so it worked once, then it didn't. yay

Now it's working on my end lol

EDIT: Wait. It seems to only work with certain keywords.

  • NBWNBW Member, PRO Posts: 8

Agreed - looks like it is partly operating.

    Search for 'sort' - yes,

    Search for 'table' - no,

    Search for 'creator' - no,

    Search for Mac - yes!

    Search for Windows - no!

    Thanks for troubleshooting.

had to fix how we did the indexes, hopefully that's it
