Stop looking for ideas! Just forget about and then something will spark!!
PS I will never forget what my dear old grandad said to me just before he hit the bucket. He said "grandson...how far do you think i can kick this bucket?"

I think I'm on to something here!
I never found out the story of the duck hunt kid
PS
Just had a water fight over the park with a bunch of local kids. I won! No one's a match for me and my kettle.
I used to buy Viz in NZ back in the early 90s, along with CVG magazine... those were the days... I'm sad... I still play my Mega Drive more than my PS2... I intend to get a PS3 when GT5 comes out but I'll still play the old Sega more... I DON'T LIKE GETTING OLD!!!! LOL.
Thoughts, and ideas are the real money of the universe. Sometimes it takes time to hit on something, but I have a trusty old black and white spotted hard cover notebook, and I write down every stupid idea that leaks into my head, or out of it, not sure where they come from.
when I was very young, 8000 years ago, I used to worry about music, I though that at some point all the music that could be made would have been made, now 7990 years later, music is still going strong. I listen to music and it causes thoughts, and thoughts can lead to ideas, an so on and so on.
Also when I am really stumped I go driving, to some place other than where I live, like the mountains, no phone, no ipod just me, and the world, ideas begin to creep in.
Sports of any kind cause me to think of games, ok enuff of that I am going to go for a drive to walmart. That always pushed ideas, fat people in ugly clothes, with 4 kids screaming, now there is a game, push the cart with the fat lady....if she sings you win.
Wow! that duck hunting idea is really good @POLYGAMe...mind if I use it?
You're a hunter and you shoot a duck and your dog picks it up and runs off with it; and you gotta chase him through town and country-side; all the while picking up feathers and feet and bones and beak...and if you get all the pieces of your duck...You WIN!

That's exactly what I do as well... I have a couple of ring binders that I fill up with whatever vague or disturbing thoughts I am having at the moment and then I'll re-visit them at a later time and sometimes I mix and mash different ones together and it helps with inspiration.
1) Control systems - sometimes you get an idea for how to come up with a way to control your main character that is unique so you build a game around it. May seem weird but if a game does not have controls that are fun and intuitive I usually don't enjoy the game.
2) Title or name for main character
3) Story line (sometimes the character or title name inspires a story to form in my head).
As I read this on the toilet, I am getting a new game idea. it's a short reach to the shower so I could stretch to qs's theory and maybe get a blockbuster! (drain buster)
Find something you are not good at, and make something that will help you learn it. There will probably be others who would be interested in learning as well.
e.g. Math, Foreign Languages, Astronomy, geography, etc.

I get really, ridiculously stuck too, at times.
Do you own a Nintendo DS? Mine has given me a lot of inspiration, what with it also being a touch screen device.
PS
My mate was yapping on about how "logic can prove anything"
I said "Nothing is better than eternal happiness, right?"
He agreed
I said " A ham sandwich is better than nothing right?"
Once again, he nodded.
I said "Therefore, logic dictates a ham sandwich is better than eternal happiness right?
That shut him up.
Here's an idea for free:
Make a game about making a game. You're a designer and you have to pick up objects from each level that will go into your final game design.
The last level should have gameplay constructed around all the objects you've previously picked up.

What do you do when the ideas don't stop?
I write all my lyrics like that as well...
Add to that 'when having a smoke' and 'when having a shower'.
So, to come up with my ultimate idea I need to smoke a cigarette in the shower while taking a dump.
Hmmmmm....
