Gimp is free!
and I like having many artwork files open and visible.
artText is great!
also have
Pixelmator
had Photoshop (in CSS5)... but took didn't like to use...so deleted
have Blender (3D); Pixen; and about 10 more...
lot of what you use ... is what you personally are comfortable with... and what gets the job done quickly!
