What will this cost for a PC owner?

Unfortunately, I own only a HP laptop. I'm looking at the system requirements for GS, and realize I need a pretty expensive mac.

What's the cheapest way to be able to run GS? Imac? Mac laptop? Are there such things as desktop macs? Or is there a way to run OS X 10.6 on a PC (legally, I mean).

Please advise. I want to get started with GS ASAP, but have limited funds. Thanks.

You can also dual boot with Hackintosh, at least that's how I stated :) worked like a charm for me. Or you can try Virtual Machine which will let you run OSX from you Windows.

And Virtual Machine wont work on a lot of computers. Oh and Hackintosh's are great to start with but honestly theres nothing like the real thing. Trust me I started using GS on one and I now have a macbook pro and its sooooo much nicer.

Before I started developing for Apple, I had 9 computers in my house, not one of them a Mac. I looked into building a hackintoch, but in the end I went out and bought a Mac Mini and it works GREAT. At first I looked around eBay, and although there were some good deals, I don't like the idea of buying a USED computer, which were the cheapest on eBay, so finally I just went in to my local Apple Retail Store and bought a Mac Mini there. It takes up hardly any desk space, and it just sits on top of my main Windows computer. But if I were you, I wouldn't shell out another hundred or so to buy a keyboard, mouse, and monitor from Apple. When I bought my Mac Mini, I already had a spare monitor lying around the house, and I went to Walmart and bought a wireless keyboard and mouse that came with a free set of speakers for around $50.00. The cheapest Mac Mini is around $749.00, but it's well worth the price to develop for Apple products. In the end, you shouldn't have to spend over $1,000 to get started. Good luck!

    I'll sell you my late 2009 MacBook (C2D 2.26) for 749.99 + shipping.

    Specs: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP579

I've bumped it to 5gb of RAM and added a 7200rpm 320gb HDD.

you could easily find a white macbook on ebay for $400. as long as it's intel it's a perfectly fine machine for GameSalad. you can probably also find an old intel mac mini.

I would recommend you put in as much RAM as possible, and maybe get a external monitor.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll be buying used... :) BarkBarkCo, I can't do that right now, but thanks for the offer. I think I'll try eBay.
