looks good! I like how in the first game the pattern of the sfx sound a bit like a bleep version of the jaws theme! greatest movie ever, I could relate anything to it!
I must admit to nicking the sounds from a Galaxy Invader 1000 machine (I used to have one as a kid and played it to death). The sound for me is what makes it, brings back fond memories of the early 80's for me.
I also remember having a table-top Popeye game...now THAT was the sh't my friends.
This is sweet. I loved playing these games on my old device that played 300 games in black & white. I forgot what it was called, but I got it from a swap meet when I was younger.

I had one of these:
Still have it in fact, as well as a bunch of others (though no Popeye I don't think - will check!).
I was always jealous of the kids with the Galaxy Invader 1000 though!
You should also design the instructions to mimic the 70s graphically. I seriously think this could popular. I know there are a ton of 8 bit retro games, but I've not seen anything like this.
yeah... the final version is a "cheat" way of doing it.
I wanted to keep the frame-rate at 60fps for when it's a real for sale game as opposed to a tech demo... so in the final version, the on LEDs are separate objects, and the off LEDs are one big background image.
Still a lot of scary logic in there to get the speed increases looking smooth and constant. I am basically re-setting the enemy objects after each 22 pixel "jump"
I may chuck up the real LED board for people to download at some point. The logic really isn't all that bad the way I have done it
(using invisible overlay actors that trigger an on or off state)
I think doing it in pure maths, might give better frame rates, but it would be pretty brain busting to keep it robust enough I think.
@219 yeah. There are a few Game and Watch style games up.. and I noticed someone has recreated an MB "Merlin" in the past few days. But I've not seen anything as oldskool as this on the app store.
I think it might be quirky enough to pick up a few sales hopefully.
Also going to send promos to "Retro Gamer" mag (here in the UK), I'm a subscriber...great mag if you have not checked it out.
Hahaha.... Pointless Multiplayer... your just trying to get past that GS doesn't provide that. Good luck with sales, anyways... looks like a great game!! (or games). Are you going to be handing out promo codes? If so, I would love one!!

Have decided to publish it.
I'll be chucking a load of promos your way once it's all available and whatnot.

Basically in 2 days I have
1. Created the LED tech demo
2. Fleshed it out into a game ready to be published
2 DAYS!!!!
Not changed too much from the vid I showed yesterday.
Added the clicks to the button presses, fixed a bug or 2 I found
Changed the game selection screen a little (Bigger mode selection switch etc)
And bosh... submitted it.
