Hi all, a friend of min (honestly) bought a template (like sheep stacker) and changed all the graphics and sounds. The game looked different but the game play was the same. The game was rejected as another company has a TM on the name tower builder or tower blox/blocks and the concept of trying to lower blocks one on top of another.

I think buying templates which is virtually or is a completed games is a bad idea unless you plan to re work them.

I have seen lots of games on the app store which have come from templates and I wonder if its damaging the app store and maybe even gamesalad. It seems you need to pitch your ipad game at 1.99 to get anywhere or 99c for ipod games.

I think all templates should be sold as a minimum with watermarked graphics.

Just my view

Regards

John

You cannot trademark or copy right any game play so it was most likely because all he did was change the art and there is already several like that. and if he tried to use a name that was already there. The point of a template is to give you a solid starting point or completely for learning. Tell your friend to add to the template something unique and give it a unique name

Well thats an obvious TradeMark infringement. Tell him to rename it.
