edited November -1 in Working with GS (Mac)
6 months ago, I started using GS and I got addicted to it after the first minute.
I started learning while creating my first game. I learned something new and I added to my game. Some people star by creating a simple small game but not me and I know that some of you are on the same ship. I learned how can an actor follows another and I created a chasing scene... I learned how to jump and I created a jumping obstacles scene. I have lots of different types of games on it. It took me 2 months. ANYWAY when I finished I eded up with a 74 scenes game with a size of 122MB.

I have created 3 more apps after that and I think I have learned a lot after that. Still a long way to go but I have learned enough to say I can not move forward until I take a look to my firs game.

First of all I used Wayne and Darren's Project optimizer ant it almost laugh at me. First of all it found actors and images that where not been used. So many actors and images it was hard to go thru each one of them without help.

"112 spawning" said the spawn inspector with disbelief...
and lots and lots of I am to embarrass to tell...

I started working on it and instead of having the menu scatter thru 5 scenes (menu, options, credits, languages and levels) now there are only in one scene. and I did that thru all the game grouping the scenes where they make the most sense and without affecting the performance.

Images... almost 95% where uneven... That problem was fixed and I used 2 amazing tools that reduce the size of Images ( ImageOptim & ImageAlpha). Some of the pictures were reduced to 15% of the file size without noticing the difference. An 85% of savings... wow.

I had a blast doing it.
To make the story short from 74 scenes i reduced to 23 and its way faster and by a lot.
and from122MB... sit down... TO 24.4MB ......... Yep Incredible. I tried to take it to less than 20MB but I didn't want to eliminate any part or reduce the quality of the images.

For all of you that stood with me during all this blah, blah, blah. Thank you and take a time to go back to your roots. I may only make you stronger...

I often go back to my first apps and think how the heck did I make that work again and try to tweak them a little with new skills it's an awakening sometimes.
