help with viewer

i'm trying to upload the viewer onto an ipad, i've already installed it on my phone and just 'updated' it on that. but when i try the ipad im getting, no iOS enabled device connected. i've added it to the devices list in the provisioning portal and edited the provisioning profile to add it in there. i feel like im missing something really obvious. any help would be really appreciated.
